Anxiety about surgery
I am so worried about surgery.. I had surgery to remove my gallbladder in 2006 but had no pain or anything.. woke up from surgery and was home 2 hours after... so obviously the RNY is different....
Can someone tell me what its like before you go in to OR?
After you wake up from surgery? What waking up was like?
Girls- did you have a catheter? Did it hurt?
UGh im so worried about the actually surgery more than ever!!
Thanks !

1 ... IT was my 1th surgery..
2. I live in mexico and i had surgery in Houston TX. so I was in a extrange country with people who don´t speak my language. and AWAY FROM HOME!!!.
3. I spend 1 week post op in a hotel.
I just remember taking all the medication that i had to the night before surgery i really thought i was taking like my las meal or something like that like i was signing my death sentence. haha but i was been very brave about it! LOL.
when i came to the hospital i wasn´t really nervious. then a lady came to take me to the preop room. so i changed and oh yeahhh I HAD MY PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! ( but everybody was very nice about it they are used to that to happend) then the nurse a very nice young lady did my IV. and the dr came to see me then my parents were allowed to come and see me before they took me to the OR. I rember going to the OR. really hight. hahah they give you some really good drug. so you are kindda "WHATEVER" when you get to the OR. i Remember chanching to the "OR BED" thE anesthesiologist put a mask on me and told me to breath. and that was it!.
the next thing i remember its been really sleepy and trying to touch my tummy to see if everything was over... then they took me to my room and i finally saw my parents.
My surgery was over around 11.00. and i was in my room around 2.00.am and walking. i spended the all time i was in the hospital sleeping. i was in pain but not that much. I was unconfortable cuz it was to much time laying in a bed. as soon as i left the hospital i started to feel good!!!!.
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT!!!!!!!!!! IT WORTH IT!!!!!!!! AND I WOULD DO IT OVER AND OVER AGAING AND AGAIN!! AND IF I COULD I`ll DO IT TOMORROW!! HAHAHAHA.
you are gonna be fine is like having a baby you forgot after u see the result lol. hahaha

I remember just sitting in the waiting room with my parents until a nurse came in and got me and my mom and she took us back to the pre-op area after I said bye to my dad. We hung out there and I got my IV and my mom and I just talked and they did a review of my medical history. I was totally and completely calm until my anastesiologist (sp) came in and started talking to me and I started to get really nervous and shaking and kinda started to tear up a little bit because I've never had surgery. He gave me some meds in my IV to calm me down and that helped and then a nurse and my surgeons assistant came out and talked with us for a min and I said good bye to my mom and was wheeled away for surgery. They got me on the the OR table and the room was freezing so put warm blankets on me and got me all set up. They put a mask on me and told me to take deep breaths and I was out. I remember waking up and feeling really sleepy and they asked if I was in pain and I told them it was about a 5 and they gave me meds and I passed out again. I was there for a while and was home later that night but then again I had the realize band and not RNY. You will be fine good luck
I had mine.. and was up and walking the same day..
wasn't much pain..
just super tired..
and i remember i couldn't eat or drink til after i had this leak test the next day..
all i could do was use this swab to moisten my mouth..
which sucked for me cause i hadn't eaten or drank anything from the day before...
but i was there 2 days.. up and walking the same day
minimal pain..
just some gas discomfort..
and no complications 6 months out .. yay!
you will do just fine girl!

The worst part is waking up from anesthesia. Once I got up and walked around I started to feel MUCH better. After that morphine kept any pain in check, and the swab helped the dry mouth. I had an aide that gave me heat packs to hold on my tum tum and they really helped, and the first night my momma kept a cool washcloth on my forehead. I was off pain meds 3 days later.
Now I'm 3 weeks out and feel AWESOME.
I got myself super duper worked up about the surgery and there was absolutely no reason to. The hard part is mental.
Oh yeah, and NO catheter!!
The first time you step on a losing scale you will forget any discomfort you may have had.
GOOD LUCK!!
