Dating after WLS

Hey everyone! I had my WLS (open RNY) a little over 2 months ago. I broke up with my boyfriend of 4+ years, fiancee of 3+, less than a month before my surgery. A lot of people think, "Oh, she's about to have WLS, and she's just going to look for someone better because she is going to be losing weight." That wasn't the case at all. Our relationship had been on the rocks for more than a year before the break up and before I had even decided on WLS.

I have dated some, but I am having a difficult time for many reasons. Anyone have any advice for me? I'm 25 and will be 26 on June 4. Help!!

I'm not a barfly, and I usually fall into the "friend" trap, but I met my love on match.com and we're getting married next summer. I'm not cheesy, I swear. The whole process was great--we got to know each other slowly and authentically, progressing from emails to phone to dating and our intentions were clear, no game playing or guessing how he felt. Plus we have adorable love letters from the beginning!

No matter where you look make sure that you know what you want out of Mr. Right and make sure he can give it to you. Too often we settle for less than we deserve.

Also, if you just want to have fun for a while, go for it.

I would say to keep an open mind and just let life happen.  Surround yourself with supportive people and just enjoy your life now post-op.  You  have so many options!

I think this surgery will give you strength and confidence more than you ever had before.  Just live your pro-active life and someone great will come along to share it with you...accept no less that greatness from the person you date!

I'm very sorry for your break up with your fiance but sometimes those things can be blessings in disguise, you just might not know what it is yet.

Best of luck!
