Smoking on what umhm do you mean Mary Jane...j/k I heard the sooner the better smoke prevents oxygen from traveling to your tissues properly and it would be better to quit as soon as you can to make it easier for your body to heal

I really couldn't tell you for sure but I will tell you that I haven't even seen my doctor about a referral and I quite last week. That being said I've broken down and one or two since then, so the sooner you try to quite the better. That way your slip ups will phase out completely or almost completely by the time you need to be done.

i know, i keep saying "this is my last pack" but then i buy another pack. i swear to god i feel like rachel on friends. Almost all the girls at my work smoke and go out at the same time to smoke and i feel left out if i dont go too! the worst is when i am in my car....i light one up as soon as i get in! anyways i WILL quit...im not gonna let ciggarettes get in the way of my dream. i just wondered if anyone knew how long i actually had!  even tho its horrible for you, i like smoking! it seems like it takes all the stress away when i worry about this dayum surgery.

I had to stop smoking 4 weeks before surgery and I did - this is how I did it. I drank massive amounts of chamomile tea...and used any other method to relieve stress and calm down whether it had been incense or anything and just like tell people there going to hate you after you quit for a little while takes 21 days to break an addiction.

Now the problem - after surgery I still smoke - it's a horrible habit that I am trying to quit I had quit for a total of a month and half before surgery and 7 months after - and then...well I gave in - and am working on resolving that problem again now.

It ain't how you die it's how you breathe - it ain't what you take it's what you leave and conceive. What you got is nothing if your soul don't represent it -...present it, because it ain't where you from it's where you been kid.

Took my heart; froze that. Promised that if I opened it up it would
never close back.

Just quit. I did exactly 6 months before surgery. This whole thing is about living longer, healthier lives, so I figured I'd bite the bullet. Besides, I'm 2 weeks out and I've already lost all the weight I gained when I quit. Also my hair smells better, I can climb stairs, I have more time and money, and I've learned how to swear my ass off in traffic. Stick a patch on and let's GO!

girl i am battling the exact same thing as you. i had jaw surgery in october, i quit for 5 weeks, then i went back? why?!?!?! who knows. but like many of us im sure smoking is probably the only thing that keeps us from snacking non stop. hell what am i talking about i already snack non stop and i smoke, but anyway, like previous post said it takes about 3 weeks for the nicotine to leave your body, you'll hack up crap and feel like poop and have cravings, but seriously stick to it, im on the trying to quit wagon again. my dr said they wont even attempt to try the surgery if im a smoker because of the lack of oxygen you get anyway its a threat to be under anesthesia. a lot of people chew sugarless gum, since im a cool kid and have braces haha i cant so i tried peanut butter... weird but for some reason it worked. everytime i started to crave hardcore id make myself hold off until the closest half hour (like say its 11:10 and i want a cig i make myself hold off until 11:30) when i cant take it anymore i'd eat a spoonful of peanut butter and suck on it. i stopped smoking in my car when my son was born so i cant help with that. but good luck, add me as a friend if you want. im killing myself trying to quit right now too (as i look at the clock and see if i have time to go smoke, damn i need to bring peanut butter to work) good luck!!!

i quit before my surgery for almost 2 months pre-op

But i am back to smoking a bit, not too much. Like a pack every 5 days or so. My doctor told me that smoking can lead to ulcers [of the bleeding variety] in your little stomach pooch, and trust, i think of that everytime i lite up....but damn, i still don't stop....

Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

I was planning on quitting as soon as I got my approval for surgery. I got my approval right before Thanksgiving and scheduled my surgery for Jan 5. My goal was to quit immediately. However, with finals coming up, and the stress of dealing with my family over the holidays, I just could not quit. Throw a 1400 cal a day diet (which seems like a ton of food now) into the mix, and there was just no way. I would have ended up skinning a small child.

I still smoke (bad kid, I know), but I smoke so much less now. I go through a pack every 2-3 days instead of smoking a pack a day. I try to do something else instead of smoking. Excercise, clean, get out of the house. Quitting is on my list. Right now, I'm just not ready. And I know that I will not be successful if I'm not mentally ready to quit.
