vitamins for the rest of our lives???
Now that i have a date scheduled it seems like my mom is starting to question my choice...she's worried about me taking vitamins for the rest of my life...Im only 22 and she says stuff like "do u think u should try 1 more time the old fashion way, your gonna have many years take pills are you ready for that?"...now she has me second guessing my choice...the only option where vitamins wont be necessary is the lap band and even then im not sure if thats true! I will be honest my ideal surgery would be VSG, but UHC does not cover it so i chose DS. So, my question is how many have trouble remembering your vitamins or sometimes regret wls because of it? How many of you all feel even with vitamins you do it all over again in a New York minute?
Honestly, the vitamins are probably the easiest part for me of the whole thing. The hard part is making sure you are eating properly, exercising, water and the whole mental aspect of it all.
I do not regret my decision for surgery for one minute. If I have to take 3 vitamins the rest of my life to FINALLY have a life, then that's not asking a whole lot in my opinion. I think people who never had surgery should be taking vitamins...very few people actually get all the vitamins and minerals they need in a day by just food alone.
If you have trouble fathoming it, just think that it's going to be the same as brusing your teeth or showering everyday...it'll be come that routine.
I think you are just having pre-surgery jitters and that's normal.
I really don't think you will find too many of us on this board *****gret their decision for surgery.
Good luck!

I remember my vitamins everyday but to be honest with you I do not take them anymore, I am 2 years post opp. For the first year I took my vitamins religiously. I only missed one day out of that year. In the beginnning vitimans were a treat to me since I was only to drink protein drinks the first 2 weeks out of surgery. It became a daily routine quickly. I would have WLS again in a heart beat. It is a lifestyle change and to this day I feel sexy, full of live, and healthy.

All of my labs have come back great. My last lab work came back about a month ago and everything was well. I try to get my nutrients and vitamins in by what I eat. It has worked well for me. The Doctor does not have a problem with it. I do notice when I eat bad and not get enough nutrients my body feels it and I get light headed. When that occurs I will take a couple of flinston vitamins and go back to protein and green vegetables. This has worked well for me but every one is different.

Even if I didn't have to take the vitamins anymore I still would. I think they would help anyone - even if they never had WLS.
It ain't how you die it's how you breathe - it ain't what you take it's what you leave and conceive. What you got is nothing if your soul don't represent it -...present it, because it ain't where you from it's where you been kid.
Took my heart; froze that. Promised that if I opened it up it would never close back.

It is a forever deal unfortunately, what you save on food you spend on supplements...but there are ways to make it easier on yourself...
I have a HUGE pill box...it covers AM/PM for the entire week...every friday I refill it and I keep it next to the coffee pot so I remember to take them first thing in the morning with my first cup....and right when I get home from work with my afternoon cup...
Travelling is the only time I get a bit screwed up...but I begin to feel weak and get them in as soon as I remember...
I had an issue with iron for a while, but started taking a different kind and have it resolved...your bloodwork will be an indicator of whether or not your body is absorbing what you need...
did your nutritionist give you a list of vitamins you'll need with your surgery?
good luck to you!
