Pre-op Support
Because I'm really excited about the idea of surgery I have been telling my close friends and family. The only problem is I haven't been able to find much support. I know that it's an important part of the process. I'm finding some people's comments really hurtful! Did anyone else find it hard to find people to support them in their decision to get surgery?
I`m sorry u are having bad comments. when i told my friends there all were very supportive. but then i found a couple who were really scared about my health and they made my feel a little bit insecure of my decision. so i stop telling people.
after my surgery i was more open about it `cuz it was already done. so my advice is to just tell the people *****ally care about you `till you have surgery after they can say what ever they wantl. but I don´t want anybody to make you feel scared or insecure so please becareful you made the right decision don´t listen to negative coments.
good luck! u are gonna do an amazing job!
hugs
oh girl!! when i told everyone i was considering.....they went psycho on me. my mother especially...she kepttelling me how i could lose the weight the "hard way" if i just put my mind to it. My sister said it wasnt fair for me to have surgery and her to still be fat so she was upset with me for a while. my boyfriend was really upset about it, he thought it would change me as a person...
after surgery...my mom sees that it isnt EASY by any means....my sister is happy i will soon be sharing clothes with her, and my boyfriend has been so supportive its crazy!! hes been here every step of the way
give them time, let their comments roll off ya, and keep your chin up
i just kept telling my self it was my body, my life and my decision. reguardless of what anyone else thought i was the one that had to live with it.
good luck...i hope you love your rny as much as i do!!

It seems like I've been lucky because most people I tell are very supportive or at least they give me that impression. The biggest thing I heard before surgery was "Are you sure you're big enough for that?" ...Um...yeah...I more than qualified. Then I tried to explain that I thought about it for almost a whole year before making the decision, so it wasn't just a willy-nilly thing. Most people seem to not know a whole lot about the surgery except for they make your stomach small and you lose weight. Unfortunately most people get their information from prime time tv rather than reputable sources.
Like another poster said, it's probably is easier after the fact because you've already done it.
