Questions To Ask?!?!
So my consultation with the surgeon is on Wednesday and I am super stoked because I think I have all my paperwork ready to submit to insurance. However, since joining OH I keep answering some of my questions and I feel like I won’t have any to ask the Surgeon.
Can you please help me put together some questions that way I don’t feel like a total dummy later and beat myself up for not asking important questions. Each question you provide I will compose into a little list. Thanks in advance for your continued help & support!

Every surgeon has different criteria both before and after surgery, so even if you feel like you know a lot from the info you see on here it may not be exactly what your surgeon requires or wants you to do.
I would ask about your hospital stay, what to expect before and after surgery. How often do you have follow up appts, how often to you meet with the nurtritionist. Ask if your surgeon or nutritionist will answer emails if you come up with a question for them down the road that does not require a visit. This has been invaluble to me..I have emailed my nutritionist several time with little questions and it's been so helpful (especially since I live 2 hours away from both surgeon and nut.).
Ask about weight lifting restrictions and how long they will be in place before you can start being active.
Those are just a few. Hope they help!

mitchy hit the nail on the head...
I think knowing HOW and WHO to contact with questions or concerns will be the biggest help...as you said yourself, you may forget one, or something during your day may prompt a question for them.
Although OH is an amazing site, you may be gives specific instructions tht differ from the "usual"
My surgeon and NUT are very helpful when I have a concern and I feel very comfortable calling with questions.
CONGRATS on doing all your homework...you never can know too much!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Oh yes...lol...
I did learn early out to keep track of everyone in the office I spoke to...so early on, before we got things "straight" I would contact people by name and was very specific about the nature of the contact we had...Julie was actually the most helpful of the group...I LOVE HER!
After my moron doctor's office losing ppwk for the first few weeks, I wasn't about to get all the same run-around from the surgeons office too...so I DOCUMENTED EVERYTHING...and when I called from my office, I clarified that due to the nature of my work, all calls are recorded...suddenly there was no problem with anyone...lol...I never really had a "rude" issue...but the disorganized thing was brought quickly under control...I just refused to be bullied or treated like they were doing me a favor, afterall MY insurance is PAYING THEM!
they tend to be a bit more cooperative when they know it could come back to bite them...

I asked questions like:
how much of the intestine they plan to chop off (well really just byapss) -- Makes a difference in how much malnutrition you get
What kind of rny? (proximal, distal, or the ancient loop)
laproscopic, or open? How often are laproscopic forced into open through complications?
Pre surgery diet, liquid diet for long?
Gall bladder removal? Some doctors do it no matter what, others dont. I wanted to know (and mine leaves it alone :p)
What is a drain? Do you use them? Will I need one?
Activity or antibiotics post-op to limit complications and blood clots that sort of thing
ulcers seem like a high risk, what can be done to limit the risk?
That is what I came with to my appointment. My first appointment I had though about most of these but I was so overwhelmed when I got there that I forgot to ask any of them. So when I went up last tuesday I printed out a copy so that I could read from the list to make sure I had everything answered.
I am getting chopped up on the 24th at high noon, so wish me luck! :D
