Birth Control and periods?

Hey Girls!

I had a quick question about birth control after WLS.  I am going to see my gyno/PCP on the 27th.  I want to discuss birth control options with him in hopes that they will help to shorten my periods too.  I never had a normal cycle while growing up, except while on the pill for many years.  Well, since a few months before surgery (like when I started my pre-op diet) and post-surgery, they have been just about on schedule every month, but have lasted anywhere from 14-28 days!  And they are at full throttle that entire duration.  Its just horrible and I want to discuss my options with him.  I know that many of you swear by the Nuva Ring, which is something I am going to talk to him about.  But, is there a time frame after surgery that you have to wait before starting a method of birth control?  For some reason, I have it in my head that I have to wait 3-6 months, but I could have made that up or gotten it juggled with some other bit of info!  LOL  I am planning on emailing my surgeon tomorrow.  I have to get his card from home.  Thanks for the help and suggestions!

My surgeon told me to wait about 2 weeks before resuming BC but every surgeon is different.

i had this same talk with my dr about a week ago.  my options according to him were nuva ring...99% effective with absorption because its vaginal....b/c about 30% absorption b/c oral.....patch 50% absorption because I am over 180#s and the shot, which in the past made me gain weight.

i chose nuva ring....its really not what i expected but I LOVE IT!!

I had surgery 3 weeks ago. My surgeon told me I could start Nuva Ring with my next cycle after surgery which was a week ago.

I have the iud and its awesome! No periods no cramps!

I have the Mirena IUD and I had it put in a few weeks before sugery.

 Hi, I have an implanon implant, it is in my left arm, can't see it, and can barely feel it. Before i had it place my monthly visit where horrible, now mine are no longer then three days and very light. I've had it since Jan, and the ObGyn who placed it said it will only help make my monthly visits less, to where i won't get them at all. i don't have to worry about changing a ring(done that) or about a pill, nor a shot. Its there for three years. I bursed up pretty good while placing it,but they numbed my arm so i didn't feel a thing.. A few days after it was placed my arm was tender, but nothing to bad, and now i don't even know its there, unless i tough the stop.. 
I would recomend it to any one who is fearful of pregnancy after surgery. 
I would look into if i was you... 

I have the Mirena IUD...got it a few weeks after surgery and now have NO cramps and a very light ONE DAY (barely) period!!...LOVE IT!

My surgeon said BC was fine immediately after surgery, but that was him hehe. I found out that we have problems absorbing pills and I was on Yaz so I went to my regular PCP and asked her about birth control thinking she'd put me on NuvaRing but she said I was a perfect candidate for Mirena since I shouldn't be getting pregnant for a while at least (because of the surgery). She said the info saying you HAVE to of had a kid previously is outdated, it's perfectly fine it's just by design they make the Mirena IUD slightly larger to fit a larger uterus. I seen a gyno to talk about it and he confirmed what my doctor said and that I might experience more cramping at first than someone whose had kids but it shouldn't last longer than a month, and after about 3 months or so (the break in period) most people notice way lighter and eventually sometimes non-existent periods. I was like, sign me up! I have periods that last forever as well, and I liked the fact that Mirena has higher efficiency rating than anything else because YOU don't do anything. NuvaRing, if used 100% correctly and it never fell out, and you know with out a doubt it was placed right, does have a high rating but there's so many "what if" factors that it kind of turned me off. I've talked to a LOT of people on the "Sex Forum" who have had the NuvaRing and said that it comes out all the time. Anyways, that's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps! :)
