PreOps Check In!
Hey There all you pre-ops just wanted to see how we are all doing? How are things going? Where are you at? Updates People, I know there are few of us on here.
As for me I just completed the Psych Eval, my 2nd PCP supervised diet info, and then I called my obgyn from back in 2005 b/c I know I had monthly weigh ins and they medically requested me to be on a professional supervised WW diet! So I had 11 consecutive months of that put into a letter, picked up the letter today during my lunch, faxed it the surgeons office, received a call about 25 minutes later from the surgeons nurse and she said everything looked good and that is exactly what they needed. After the Surgeon consultation on the 18th they will most likely submit everything to insurance. OMG! I am freaking out could this really be happening? I am so not trying to get my hopes up but still how can you not??? I am still pre-tending that I need to do the 6 month supervised diet. So I am 33.3% of the way complete only 4 more visits to go!

HEY! Good for you getting everything done! Its kind of crazy all the things you have to do.... Well I got my bloodwork done, looks good, got my pysc eval, said i was a good candidate, had all my pulmonology test yesterday, all went well, had the pulmologist consult with the doctor who was an a-hole but he says i would be a good candidate too. Though he needs me to do a sleep apnea test thing at home.... gah, one more thing to worry about. But tonight I have my nutrtion class. And thats it.... I just need to do that sleep thing and then the doctor will write the approval for my surgeon and turn it into insurance and hopefully will be good to go in April!!! I hope and pray ( though I don't really do that) that it will all work out. Good luck to you! Go TEAM! lol =0)

Thanks for checking in :) I was just thinking that I wanted to do a new post for the PreOps. Good luck with the insurance stuff!
I had my first appointment witht he nutritionist yesterday. She was really nice. I have to lose 18 pounds before I can have surgery so we talked about my PreOp diet. She emphasized lots of protien, limited sugar, no eating out. All the normal stuff. She also told me to start substituting one meal a day with a protein shake. I had my first one last night and it was awful! It was so chalky. I'm going to try other kinds because I know it takes a lot of trying different ones to find something you like! I have my psych eval on Friday. I'm a little nervous about that one because I've never gone to a phsycologist or anything before. I have my first physical therapy appointment on Monday. Then I have to take 5 behavior modification classes. The nutritionist said that she thinks I'll be ready for surgery in May. May! I was thinking it would be more like July/August, but she's the professional, so maybe May?! I have quite a bit left to do so I'm not really holding my breathe for May, it was just nice to hear it.

Hi,
I'm still a pre-op too although not for much longer, I'm having surgery next week, March 20th! I went to my first seminar back in like 2003 I think then decided I wasn't read and wanted to do it myself.... Well 7 years later here I am still big and more than ready to start my new life over and scheduled for surgery, I went to my second seminar the end of Oct or first part of Nov. Did my psych eval, my nut exam, met with my surgeon, my upper GI, my basics class, my pre-op class, my support group meeting, and I don't know what else. Tomorrow I'm getting my EKG and blood work done and doing my pre-admit paperwork. They told me I had to lose 16lbs before surgery and so far I've lost around 24-25lbs last time I weighted myself. I've been on my liquid diet for almost a week and can honestly say I have had good and bad days where I'm not hungry and they I've had days where I've been starving and wanted something to eat SOOOOO bad! Well I guess thats all for now, good luck all those pre-op's stilly waiting for approval, it will happen sooner than you think and dont be afriad to call your insurance a day or so after you submit it, I did and found out before my suregon( sp) did!

I just went to my nutrition class yesterday. Got a full binder of the post-op diet plan they reccommend and everything else.
I had my other weigh in then and I lost 6lbs since I last went in. Everything looks good so far.
Next wednesday they have a voluntary taste test meeting for various protein shakes and bars so I am going to go to that. Then I need bloodwork next week, and surgery the 24th. :)

I am really in the beginning of this whole thing. I am going to my PCP tomorrow to get my blood work done and have him put me on the 6 month medically supervised diet. I'm hoping he will start the date from January when I first went in to see him about a diet/weight loss. I also need a letter of recomendation from him (cross your fingers that he won't be an a hole about it). My surgical consult is May 1st which is when I will see a nutritionist (I think) and a cardiologist/pulmonologist. Still need to set up my apt with the psychologist but I'm not too afraid of that. I'm hoping I'll be able to get my surgery the earliest in august the latest in december.
