Hello all! I am 21 years old and planning on have the RNY. I am self-pay and my first consult is Thursday, March 5th. I am hoping to get a surgery date soon. I was quoted a ballpark figure of 20k for everything.

You simply cannot be beaten if, at the end of the day, some tiny part of you can still whisper: "I will try again tomorrow" 
Congrats. I am still pre-op, but just wanted to say $20k sounds about right from what I have been quoted.
My insurance is covering $7500, the other $12500 is on me, so total is right about what you were quoted.
I have only been on here a short time, but I have learned alot and the people on here are very supportive and knowledgable.

Im from new jersey having my surgery in new jersey, was orignally having it with Dr. Joya in mexico and i would have paid 13k with him.
I am financing half of the 20k and depleting my savings but I feel it is definitely worth it.
The 20k also includes a year of follow-up visits and support which I figure is a big bonus, I dont want to have to pay for every follow up visit and would rather have the surgeon do the follow up then my PCP who is ummmmm how do I put this nicely? (an idiot).
