If you are in a medical emergency, you want the medics to know that your inside anatomy is not normal.  Mine says

Name
Surgery Type
ICE: phone number
Surgeons Phone Number
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord.  Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jer 29:11

I don't wear one but it's certainly not a bad idea.

If you were to get into a medical emergency where they would  need to do an Upper GI and they didn't know you had WLS, they could really injure your new stomach with the tube.
My surgeon has said that even if it's not a medical emergency, under no cir****tances am I allowed to let anyone but him perform this procedure because he's seen too may of his patients injured from other doctors not knowing about the WLS.

This is just one example, I'm sure there are other medical emergencies where it would be helpful to know.

I wear a bracelet.  I found out I'm allergic to the wound dressings applied in hospitals and welt up, so that along with the RNY is printed on my bracelet.  Its a part of me.  I never ever take it off, I'm just scared that one day I don't wear it I get into trouble.

Mine's hella cute!  Its a plain silver metal with pink insignia.  You can go to www.medicalert.org for more information.  There is a fee for the bracelet and information that's kept on file yearly.  If something were to happen, medical attendants can call Medic Alert and be filled on all of your medical history, pretty neat!!!

I've had mine since my surgery and its my reminder all day how far I've come... its way too big and I have yet to buy a shorter chain.
