Question for the ladies.....

 Hey!

This is probably TMI, but not too bad.

Background.  I have a Mirena IUD that's been in place since 3/07.  From then until now, I can probably count on one hand the number of periods I've had.   I was told it's completely normal, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Well, since surgery (2 months ago) I've had two full blown periods.  Is this because of the weight loss or what?  I wanted to think that I was not having periods because of the IUD but now I'm thinking it was because of the extra weight...or I guess it could be hormones.  But I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this?

Thanks!

Our bodies are so weird. I think that it's probably due to a change in hormones. I believe that could be because of your surgery/weight loss... but don't hold me to that I could have just made that up.

I would freak if I didn't have periods.. like.. I would think I was pregnant ALL of the time!

I'm having issues too. I had a scheduled period when I was in the hospital 1/5-1/7 and I haven't stopped bleeding since. I'm on the Nuva ring, and i've been regular as a swiss train. I finally broke down and called my gyno, and she said that my body is basically pissed at me and making my hormones crazy. She said it should go back to "normal" fairly soon. If not, I'm buying stock in tampax.

That would freak me out not to have a period. I'd be running for the home pregnancy tests every other minute.

Hope that info helps. Maybe things will go back to your normal routine as well.

I'm on Mirena and have been exoeriencing the same thing since surgery, and when I spoke to my gyno she said it could take from 3 to 6 months to sort itself out. I'm seriously considering going back on the Pill b/c this is insanity.

It's good to hear that "hopefully" it will sort itself out eventually.

Mirena is actually the best BC I've ever use, so I'm going to try to stick with it.  Things with mulitple levels of hormones make me weepy constantly.

Actually it's funny because if I ever had an inkling I'd be pregnant it wouldn't be a missed period that would tip me off.  Definately TMI here, but when I was preganant with my son my boobs got huge and just looked way different.  So as long as the girls look fine, I'm  not too worried.  LoL.

I have a situation similar to mariana's. I have PCOS, which in my case at least is caused by my body being bad with insulin (read- prediabetic) and it's very closely associated with my weight. It's something a lot of women have trouble with that are this heavy. my endocrinologist told me that when my body is producing all this insulin, certain hormones are produced as well (estrogen, progesterone if I remember right) and certain androgens which apparently can interrupt your menstral cycle. So, losing weight made me start my periods again almost immediately, and I've been like clockwork since. The first one was terrible because it had been so long, and the second was bad too, but the third was almost normal and the forth was normal. I think its definitely possible that losing weight helped to contribute to getting your periods back, and that plus the IUD may have caused it as well.
As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!

I have not had the surgery yet, but I dont have regular periods. I have not had one for the last 6 months. I was regular until I gained alot of weight. My doc said it is becasue the fat in our bodies absorbs the hormones and throws the bodyway off balance. It then does not know when a cycle is or is not due. When we start losing weight the hormones are released and our body trys to bring the balance back.

Does this make sense? I hope it helps.
