What happened today.,,
Hey everybody. =) I had my surgeon's appointment today and I guess it went okay. Apparently the surgeon I went to(Dr.Nusbaum) has had 2 dozen patients revised from Dr. Capella's surgery. So he has experience with the way Dr. Capella operated, He said that Dr. Capella definetly has a special way of doing the VBG and that it is almost a 50% failure rate. So he said he has to see what the EGD Scope comes back as. But he said he'd like to be able to revise it into a RNY but doen't know if that's possible being the way Dr. Capella operated, He said the best option was the Realize Band. Has anyone ever had a revision to this? If so please let me know more about it. I have spent all my time researching the DS. Any as my surgeon said today I am not eligible for the DS. He said it would be a disaster, and it wasn't a good idea. Nutritonally speaking. I'm just kind of confused. If anybody could help me or shine some light on the BAND, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
Sorry to hear you need a revision, at least you have a suregon who knows how your last suregon works. I'm planning on getting the band and basic what is does is creats a small pouch at the top of your stomach and restrcits how much you can eat at once. Your not supposed to drink fluids while you eat or 30 minutes before or after you eat since it turns the food in the pouch into soup and it leaks out into the rest of your stomach faster than it should. The longer it stays in the pouch the more time you will fill full. The band requires fills inorder to get you to your prefect amount of restriction which results in ultimate weight loss. Hope that helps some. there is a who forum for both the lap band and the realize band (same thing made by different companies) there is also a revision forum on here as well and more people might be able to give you more information as to the sucess of your future revision. Good luck!
He actually does perform the DS. But he said that was too dramatic for me and I would end up loosing to much weight and being too thin. He said it would be overkill and he wouldn't recommend it for someone with my current weight. (220)I thought me having PCOS might matter more but apparently it doesn't. He said the best choices would be converting the VBG into a RNY if not that than a band.
Ok, I am not trying to be a thorn, but it looks as if he only does DS as a revision and has not done very many to boot. (Just like my RNY surgeon) If I were you I would get a second opinion before I get a second surgery. I am sure he is an excellent surgeon but you should go to this website : dsfacts.com and see if you can find a surgeon who is more familiar with the DS to see if that might be a better route for you to follow.
With whatever path you choose, I hope you are succesful!

hey girl. i think is gret that you found a surgeron who can help you out with your revision. i think that the best thing u can do is to talk to some of his patiends ( the ones who had the revision after dr. cappella.) the success of this patients is a great data about if what he is saying is right.
good luck. 4 what you are telling . he know what he is doing. i think that having a band as revision is a gret idea. have ds or vsg is to drastica after a rny. in my opinion.
hugs.
