is 1/2 cup food too much?

I'm going into my 3rd week after WLS and starting to eat soft foods and a bit of protein (chewed until its practically puree'd in my mouth).

I noticed that the first week, on liquids, I could only have like 1/4 cup of soup or something. Now I'm feeling almost fully recovered (mostly just get tired easily/etc) and find that I'm eating about 1/3-1/4 cup of soft/puree'd foods.

Anyways, my question is, is this normal? I heard/read that about 1/4 cup is typical and I'm afraid that I'm already starting out eating a bit too much.

Also, I wanted to ask how often people weigh themselves... I weighed myself every morning the past 3 days and I've had a .2 gain the last 2 days. Is that bad? Or is my body just going through starvation mode issues right now?

Hi :)

Your stomach is going to naturally start to heal itself and expand. If you stayed eating the amount of food you did now forever it probably wouldnt be a good thing. Do you have a nutrionist? My surgery came with one which is phenomenal. Give them a call and let them know how things are going. In the beginning I was weighing myself almost every hour...I've cut it down to once a day and hopefully soon I'll cut it down to once a week then month! Weighing yourself just stresses you out and you never know why one day you weigh more than the other day when you ate more the other day. Give the nutrionist a call!

Congratulations on your weight loss Missy!

Make sure you follow surgeons guidelines - while you feel fully recovered your body is still healing from major surgery.
You may be able to get a bit of the soft/pureed foods down but when you move to more normal eating you will find you will be eating less. Depending on the texture/moisture/denseness of food the amount of it you can eat will vary greatly. Your stomach is still healing and it will take a lot of time before you can truly tell you are full - for me it was almost 6 months... its important to keep measuring and sticking to the guidelines until your body figures out its new plumbing and you learn how to listen to what it is telling you!
