Ok so all my girlfriends are getting together to celebrate a girlfriends B-day tonight.  They invited me and want me to have drinks with them.... I am only 10 weeks out and don't know if that is a smart thing to do.  If you have drank after surgery please tell me what you think and how it affected you.... I am a little scared... I loved to drink before and hangout with friends..... guess if all else fells I can just be a sober chick!

I started out with a glass of wine, some white zinfandel.  And i was about 6 weeks out when i tried it.  You should just take it slow and if you don't feel comfortable drinking don't.  Just remember it will most likely affect you differently and alcohol stays in your system much longer too.

Stays longer in your system? Did your doctor tell you that? I have never asked my doctor but my experience is the alcohol hits my system really quick but the buzz tends to leave quickly too. I have also never had a hangover post-surgery.

I, as well started with Wine and i was bad because i was only about 4 or 5 weeks out. I just had one glass and sipped on it all night and was totally fine. It didnt seem to effect me at all but everyone is different. I definantly think sipping is the key though. take it slow and make sure youre comfortable. Have fun :)

I had my surgery during the summer time (2007)  I didn't drink till that New Year's Eve, which was about 4 months post-op.  I got hammered on Patrone Silver but I was fine, no hang over or nothing......

One key thing is.....you will get DRUNK much FASTER than pre-op since you have a small pouch now.  Just be careful.  I'd stay far away from beer and anything else carbonated.  Carbonation WILL stretch your pouch.  I know some people say it wont but, I've seen 2 family memebers gain weight back after not giving up everything carbonated after WLS.

I'd personally wait a while longer.  That's just my opinion

you should wait. until a bit more. if you want you can have a little of wine. but if you could wait it would be great!!!. i was allowed to drink at 6 months out. my 1th drink was a glass ofwine i shared it with a friend. lol

Its not smart - you had a major surgery that is life changing and that should be your focus. Your liver is already going thru so much with all the weightloss, protein, suppliments etc as well as processing everything from surgery - its really not fair to dump drinking on top of it.
IMO its the time to be focusing on doing what is necessary to be successful... also a good chance to learn how to have fun without having to have a drink. There will be time in the future to drink if you so choose but personally I dont think that time is now.
