No Support! Complications
I was just wondering if anyone knew any statistics on the mortality rate for RNY Bypass for people in their 20s. My husband is totally non-supportive of my decision to have surgery. Don't get me wrong, I do know that there is a chance of death as a complication from the srugery, whether it be a week after surgery or 5 years after surgery. I just want to be able to show him something. Thanks!
That is a great question for your surgeon. Your husband is welcome to come on over here and talk with us, many of our parents or special people were concerned with our health and possibility of passing away on the table or shortly after when we started the process. If need be you can pm me also!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.
I don't think a mortality rate for people in their 20s would serve you well, since you don't know what the contributing factors/co-morbidities were. Ask your surgeon and anesthesiologist what his/her mortality rate is. At my first group consult, my surgeon told us upfront that she has a mortality rate of 0, and I also asked my anesthesiologist what his was as well. Fortunately it was also 0.
hey,
I actually asked my dr in MI this question. My biggest and only fear was death....he said. "the people that die from this surgery dont really die from it, they have prehealth conditions that sometimes get worse after the surgery." He then said" giving your age you have no worries, I wouldnt lie to you. If I thought there was a chance I would tell you". It made me feel sooooooooooo much better! BTW Im 28....278 5'4 BMI 47.4

My husband was the same way!
What I did was meet in the middle - after researching for SEVERAL years.. I decided on LapBanding. After I told my husband about it, he was completely supportive! His fear was of the doctor making a huge mistake during a re-route.. The entire thing was over his fear of a mistake.
After researching banding more, I found that there are significantly lower risks associated with this surgery than rny.
We are doing well and he has become incredibly supportive! He went to ALL of my appointments with me for lapband and is even changing diet with me and starting exercise with me. Together, we will beat obesity! :)
