hey guys,

I am 24 and I am waiting for approval to have RNY soon. I have been told by some people that since I am young with no kids I should have no problem with hanging skin. Is this true? I have also been told to just drink alot of water.

Has anyone here had a problem with it?

I had VSG on October 9, 2008 and have lost sixty pounds.  The skin above my belly button is loose and my arms are slightly jiggly.

I am 20 years old and therefore, didn't expect any problems.

i am 22, 6 months out of RNY and down almost 100 lbs. i definantly have some saggy arms and will want an arm lift. My legs are great and my tummy is a little saggy but nothing too bad yet- still want to lose about 35 more lbs. so well see. It really depends on where and how you carry your weight. If you have streach marks- there is little chance that that skin will bounce back. Our age does help however it does not mean there will be no skin problems. Everyone is different :) Good luck with everything!

It's not necessarily true. Like Courtney said, stretch marks are an indication that there will be some sagging skin, since they are an indication of damage at the cellular level. Other factors include how long you have been overweight, and the distribution of the excess weight. I'm 22 and fully expect to have some extra skin, but everyone is different, so you don't know until you get there.

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

I'm cursed with terrible genetics. I had RNY surgery at 21 years old at 315 lbs., and my body is completely ruined. My arms hang down like 7 inches, my stomache is completely ruined, my breasts are so gross, and my thighs have these sort of wierd droopy bags on them. Everyone told me that because I was so young with no kids I would be fine, but I think a better response to anyone asking would be that everyone is different, so you never know.
