how can I tell when I'm full?
I had a very successful RNY bypass on Tuesday. I'm back home now and feeling mostly good. My doctor put me on a mainly liquid diet for the first 7 days (though I can have applesauce and a few other random soft foods).
Anyways, I checked the scale this morning and I'm down like 10lbs in 5 days! That is insane, I think.. but I guess it sounds about right since all I've had the past 5 days is like, 1/4 cup of soup or applesauce like 4 times a day.
But my problem is that I'm afraid that I can't tell when I'm full. I can feel everything moving around in my stomach/intestines every once in a while but since I'm not really feeling hunger, when I start eating... I'm being super cautious and stopping whenever I feel something start moving because I'm afraid of overeating (after all, who wants to feel nauseous?).
so, my question is... while I'm still recovering, how can I tell when I've actually eaten till I'm full? (or is it ok/normal to not be able to tell?)

Trust me when I say...you will know. Its the same feeling you feel after a much much much much smaller portion...but its the same feeling after that Thanksgiving dinner. Sometimes it creeps up on you but the trick is to be able to figure out when too much is too much before even getting there. My mom suggested a food journal. Just to see what types of foods get you full faster and what feelsless comfortable going down. Congrats on your success so far!

When my father had surgery he always knew because his nose would start to run. LOL! I would ask the surgeon how much you should be able to eat - and then I would eat just shy of that (eat that much and it may be uncomfy) of course- I haven't had my bypass yet so Im not sure how good my advice is! LOL!
While I was on liquids only the first 2 weeks after surgery, I couldn't tell that I was full either. I still measured everything and ate only what I could or was told to eat. My nutritionist told me to think of your new stomach as a funnel, obviously liquids are going to pass through at a quicker rate than solids and that's why the feeling of fullness isn't there quite yet. When you start eating more solid foods, you will know when you are full and how little it takes.
