time off after surgery

I'm getting closer to getting all my pre-suregery requirements finished and I was just wondering how long everyone took off of work after having their surgery. I know it is a personal decision and it depends on how physically straining your job is but I just wanted to get your opinions. I'm a Certified Nurses Assistant and so I'm busy lifting and moving patients all day. I'm planning on getting the realize band so those that have had it how long did you take off of work for, those that have had RNY are more than welcome to reply also. Hope you all have a great new years and be safe! Thanks

I had RNY and I don't work. But it took me a month to feel better and actually move around pretty good.

surgical resident, had to go back pretty quickly, 1 week later.  The first couple of days were rough -- when not moving I would fall asleep ANYWHERE.  By 2 weeks post, I felt more normal.

i'm having surgery in a week and a half, my DR. gave me month.

To be honest, i'm kind of happy to have that time off to acclimate and feel better, but i also have short term disability, so it helps with rent and bills.

Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.

My doctor suggested a month and I only took two weeks. I went back to work and realized that I should've taken the month. You dont just need the month for your body to heal but to set a eating routine...a vitamin routine...and to really understand your body because there is going to be a lot of fatigue.

I dont have a physically stressful job but I do work 12 hour shifts as a 911 dispatcher. Good luck to you :) Take the month if you can! Its your health and your job can survive without you!

I am getting the Sleeve and my doctor told me about three weeks.  He did say that if I was going to be lifting more than 30lbs. that I would need longer!  Good Luck!

i guess I am a big baby bc I had surgery on dec 3rd and had a stricture and ulcer we found on the 31st. So I am not going back to wor****il Jan 25th provided nothing else happens. So I guess that makes 7 weeks before I am going back to work.

You know you! I had my surgery on a Thursday and was driving to school with a two hour commute by Wednesday. I felt great! It was not until the 2nd month that I felt really tired!  I do not have a heavy lifting job...I sit only! Holli
