Please be honest!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey,
I am new to this forum and I have a question(s) for you for guys I had surgery on Dec 3rd and I am having issues. I think it is all from my head bc my surgeon OMG....he is flipping awesome but that's not the point. Okay I will just list the problems and please tell me if they are normal for rny or is it my head.
Pain in my left side going around to my back. I know it is the muscle pulling back but it is two kinds of pain one is more of a short burst of pain like a stab and the other lingers which I figured was the muscle. Again it does not last all day but comes and goes.
I am unable to eat really anything, I tried ALL the safe food and normally I am spitting it back up or I am in the bathroom within an hour. Water is not working either Popsicles are my best friend but I am so sick of those. I know food intolerance are normally but everything?
I am becoming SO forgetful I will walk in a room 3 times before I remember what the heck I went in there, I was SO never like that?
Have horrible headaches and have little to no energy.
I know it sounds like I am complaining but I SWEAR I really am not. I just don't know what is normal or what is not normal. I go to the doc in the morning b/c I am dehydrated and I seriously need an I.V. I held off calling him bc thought this stuff was normal, I dont want to be that patient from hell that every doctor hates you know. I havent been thats why I havent really bothered him. so any advice that you guys could give would great thanks.

You need to tell your surgeon about everything. Not being able to eat is bad... even though he's a great surgeon, your body could have healed poorly/differently. You have your headaches and dizziness due to not being nourished... pllllease tell him!!!!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.
I agree with Jaci! Call your surgeon today! You could have healed "wrong" and need a little tweak! Please be careful with this you could dehydrate or just get really sick~ Holli

The first week I introduced "solid" (realy pureed and soft foods, not solid, just not liquids) into my diet wasn't until four weeks out. The first week I was in the pureed stage, I had horrible stomach cramps and ran to the bathroom with horrible diarrhea 30 minutes after trying to eat anything, like clockwork. I finally tried some low-fat string cheese and it sat well and seemed to solve the dilemna. It is my experience that it takes a while for your body to readjust.
I also had sharp pains and lingering pains all around my incision sites. My surgeon said it is because they sew your muscle tissue back up and until the tissue heals and the stitches dissolve you will have some pain.
With that said, please still call your surgeon, you're still very early out and as far as I'm concerned, you can't worry too much. :)

It's so good that you're listening to what your "new" body is telling you...it really does take a while before you recognize what is "right" ...but until then, play it safe and let your surgeon's staff know that you are unable to follow their post-op care instructions...your body is in flux right now and you really need to be proactive in your adjustment back to food...you need nourishment right now

Everyone is right...call your surgeon. Everything can have a simple excuse but its also possible that there is something else going on. Better safe than sorry. I was unable to eat certain types of food for awhile but then things got better. I also never had a vomiting issue. Also, the forgetfulness could be your lack of vitamins...I would just suggest talking to your doc. I didnt feel "normal" until a month out...so things will get better!

If you are having trouble keeping water down you definitely need to call your surgeon. You have to stay on the surgeon (the first few months are really important).
I don't want to scare you but for two weeks I couldn't keep anything down (including water)....I had a stricture (which is where scare tissue formed at the bottom of my stomach not letting anything go down). To fix it--it didn't require surgery, the do a scope and stretch it out. Once it was stretched far enough food and water stayed down. But I was on a first name basis with my surgeon's Nurse....
Keep us posted and please contact your surgeon!
