Okay, I know it's obviously not a lot that I can eat... but holy!! I cannot do those awful protein shakes!!!!!! I've picked up some protein powder (flavored) and it's worse than the shakes!!! I'm not getting nearly enough in what I should be. I'm just wondering what everyone else's surgeon gave as a post-op diet?? I'm almost 5 days post-op and I could literally go ALL day without a single anything, other than a sip or two of water.

sf jello, sf popsicles, flavored water was basically what I had.  I didnt really start doing the protien shakes until a week or so after.  Broth is what a lot of people do.  Hope it gets easier for you soon.

Yeah, I did the broth and then I started on cream soups like cambells cream of chicken--just don't forget to add water, like I did the 1st time! LOL Then, when you can move to milk based products, Atkins has protein shakes that are AWESOME! I buy them at Target--not sure if that is near you. But, they also have them at Walmart. They are in the aisle with all the protein bars and such. Anyway, they are verrrry tasty--I couldn't swallow the powdered crap either! They come in a few flavors--I have tried the Vanilla and the Milk Chocolate and they are both verrrry yummy. They also have dark Choc and some Mocha Latte or something like that, but I haven't tried those. They have only 1 net carb and they have 15 grams of protein--and that is definately better than the nothing you may be getting right now. =) Just be careful because they are milk based and some people can't tolerate that right away. But, I didn't have too much trouble at all. =) And, they don't have that thick yucky aftertaste. They actually are very good. They are a bit  pricey but i think they are well worth it! Just drink them cold, they are better that way. =)

Well, good luck!

Let me know if there's anything else I can help with!  I am currently 23 days out and trying, trying tryng everyday!
Happy Holidays!
Hugs, Heather   by the way..I'm 28 and from Long Island =)

I was on full liquids post op just until  yesterday.  I pretty much can't eat anything I ate in the first 5 days anymore because it makes me sick to look at it...probably about how you feel looking at a protein shake!  But here's some foods that I ate.

Cream of Wheat
Broth or cream of whatever soups, not my favorite but it was at least a change.
Sugar free pudding
Jello
100% fruit juice
Yogurt
I did some sugar free, caffinee free french vanilla cappacino and mixed it with skim milk..that was good.

Not a very long list but I hope you can find something that doesn't taste horrible.  I know it was a long two weeks for me also at this stage.  Good luck, it will be over soon!

Thanks, that's very helpful! I following the guidelines... but I just don't understand if something is soft and mushy and light on the tummy, that it's not on the list. I know every surgeon is different, that's why I'm asking. Thanks again! Cream of chicken soup would be tasty... without the chicken pieces, of course.

I read that on my sheet but had no clue what it was! I'm checking it out online now to see if I can get it here in a reasonable amount of time! Thanks!

I have the Syntrax protein powders and love them (though everyone's taste is different). I mix them with skim milk (no****er) and then add in some frozen strawberries or a tbsp of peanut butter or a small scoop of sf low frozen yogurt or even just ice cubes. It ends up tasting like a great chocolate shake.

Trader Joe's turkey or chicken chili is great pureed with a little bit of low fat mexican cheese yum!

I also took some V8 tomato herb soup and pureed in some ff ricotta cheese and some ground turkey with garlic and herbs...then topped with a little grated parm. It felt like I was cooking a real meal again and it tasted great.

Good Luck,

Katie

That sounds very tasty!! I don't think I'd be allowed to eat that yet, though. I'm following my surgeon's diet instructions, but why are some surgeon's instructions so much better? LOL If I could have what you're having, I'd be set... chili with a little cheese would be heaven right now!! I heard of one case where this guy ate pretty much nothing but cheese strings. I can't wait for a bite of toast with peanut butter or a little scrabbled egg! LOL I'm struggling now, but I know it will all be worth it in the end and with a little patience, I'll soon be able to eat a little bit of pretty much everything.

I started drinking the Advantage Shakes in Chocolate Fudge they were so good at 1st but I only had to do the shakes for 2 weeks and I was happy it was over. I am starting my 4 week on Friday and my surgeon told me I could only have pasta, soft veggies, egg salad, and baked or broiled fish....I also want to know why each surgeon is diffrent. But im down 26lbs so thats good. Good luck
