hi - newbie here

Im new to the forum, but have found it really helpful in preparing for surgey. I just found out that i was confirmed for surgey next year on Jan 19th 2009 - the same day i start back at school.
Just wondering how long it took you guys to get back on your feet, as i have heard differing opinions on this subject. Some said they took two days off before going back to a desk job others a week. my doctor recomends a 2 weeks but he said most people go back after a week if its not strenous.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :-)
im so excited and nervous - the wait is killing meeeeeeeeeeeeee
Anyway, congrats on the date, cant wait to have my own!!!
sorry i cant be of much help- i work at a preschool where i had to be able to lift kids before i could go back so i was out for a ridiculous amount of time. lol
Congrats on your surgery date, it will be here before you know it! :)

Congraulations on your surgery date, it'll be here before you know it!
I'm just 8 days out of surgery and while the pain is much better, I'm still pretty tired and sore. I guess a lot of factors will go into when you decide to go back to work/school. There is no way I would have been ready in two days. I would say at minimum a week due to just getting use to everything and pain meds..but that's just my opinion. I wouldn't do too much to fast I guess is what I'm trying to say. I am a stay at home mom/private music teacher and while I can't lift my son and do those type things, I could probably see myself being able to do lessons at this point.
Very best of luck to you and I hope your surgery goes smoothly!

After my surgery I was able to move around normally about 1.5 to 2 weeks after my surgery. I was sore and did not have the desire to do too much of anything, like walk (plus I was taking tylenol with codine which put me out of it, lol).
But before you know it you will be back to normal...also walking around helped to speed up the process.
Congradulations& Good Luck!

i know its scary to have surgery when you are about to start school. I had my surgery 2 weeks after.
the next week after my surgery i was back to normal, very busy lol
work from 9.00am to 2.00 pm and then school to 4.00 to 9.00 pm. without any problem and feeling good. so you should be fine. is easier for young people lol lucky us!
take care and good luck. !!!!!!

Hey Teresa!
We have the same surgery date! I know what you mean about being very excited and just can't wait for the time to pass by--thats exactly how I feel!!
Anyhow....I plan on taking about 3 weeks of from work. I don't know if I will need all of that time, but I qualify for 4 weeks with short term disability. I have my 2 week follow up with my surgeon on February 4th and plan on going back that Monday....unless he tells me something different.
Good luck with everything and welcome to the board!!
