I am getting my surgery this month and of course I am still researching and such. I am just curious as to how many of you 20 somethings have had complications during or after the surgery?

Congratulations! Well I am 1.5months out and I've lost 39lbs. Good for you for doing your research - good and bad. I've had no complications...well a slight infection with one of the incesion areas but a little bit of peroxide and I was fine and new. I probably didnt dry it well after a shower or whatever. I didnt take it easy the week following the surgery like my doc suggested and suffered for it in the weeks to come. So when your doctor says dont lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for a week or two or three LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN!

I am 2.5 years out and no complications. I did have to get my gall bladder out this past January and that may or may not be related to the surgery... many post-WLS patients end up getting theirs removed after surgery.. from what I read massive weight loss can aggrivate the GB etc, but typically their was an issue pre-op with it. Thats been it for me :-)

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

Thigh Lift 10/2020

Thigh Lift revision 10/2021

I had my surgery in March, in the hospital i did have a hard time comming of the oxygen, my body became dependent on it, but i do have very bad asthma, my levels where 84%, which is too low, but after we got that to get better, it was smooth sailing until about 3 months ago, where i now get reactive hypoglycimic, its where your body makes too much insulin and my blood sugar goes wayyyyyyyyyyy down. besides those everything has been A-OK.

Wow, what do you do to control the reactive hypoglycimic?

I Just have to eat small several times, always keep some type of candy on me, just incase my sugars drop too low, make sure when i eat its mostly protien, too much carbs or high in sugar will cause my sugar levels to increase a little bit then dramatically decrease to a number unsafe. my sugars have gone as low as 38.

I'm almost 6 months out, the surgery went great and wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  Recovery was fine, just listen to your doctors instructions!

I am almost 5 months out, down 90 lbs and no complications. Well one, I don't enjoy eating anymore! Wait, let me rephrase that, I don't hate eating, I just don't look forward to it, or take a lot of pleasure in it like I used to. I don't know how long this will last, but I'm enjoying it while I can!

Best wishes,
-L

I am ten days out and no real complications.  I found the first couple of days, espescially the first day, very hard due to lots of pain.  But as that memory fades, I find myself thinking, it wasn't sooo bad. Good luck with your research.  Tell you a secret?  I am still researhching some parts of it.

Good luck!
