proximal or distal?
Ok I got a question still doing research on the surgery and Im just wonderin if anyone knows which is the more common type of rny the proximal or distal. I considering asking my surgeon for the proximal because it is the less malasorptive but I dont even know if you have a choice of which or it depends on which one you surgeon does.
There are actucally 3 types... proximal medial and distal. Proximal and medial are mostly performed... distal the least (there is no set definition for each either some surgeons say they do distal when another surgeon would consider what they did to be medial). Surgeons do not give you a choice, in fact most surgeons do the same on all patients regardless of how much they have to lose (each is a range so they may put you at the lower/upper end of the range).. some surgeons do tailor to the patient (a surgeon in my area that handles high risk patients tailors because of their special needs etc).
Either way the end result is the same no matter what you chose - the amount of weight you can lose in the same... typically with more bypassed it comes off quicker but again the amount you can lose and keep off is the same on all of them.
