alcohol..weird?!?!
ok i thought i would post this here cause the other boards would chew my ass out for even drinking..lol.. but i finally drank for the first time last night and everyone on these boards always talks about how to be careful cause u get drunk really really fast. okkk.. well i took it slow and had wine.. and i ended up drinking over half a bottle of wine threw out the night and didnt feel ONE thing! wtf?!?!? i was a light weight before surgery and would have been drunk of less then that! how is it now that i dont get drunk at all??
im not an alcoholic.. pre surgery i drank MAYBE twice a month.. i live in a military town and thats pretty much all the guys do here. so please if anyone wants to write anything nasty about me drinking with this surgery keep the comments to urself. im human

That's interesting that you had no effect. I have a lot of RNY friends and they say that after surgery.. the one thing they notice is that they get drunk fast but then they get sober really fast too. I'd say be careful (meaning... don't try to drink a full bottle to get drunk.. but that's obvious advice). Otherwise be happy you didn't get sick :)
I wish our stories were the same. I sipped on half a bottle of beer and I was WASTED! My doctor would be so pissed if he knew I was drinking 1.5month out. Before the surgery 2 beers would get me nice...I'm also a light weight. I still wouldnt pu**** I can eat sugar and NOTHING. And other people on here look at sugar and DUMP!

yeah i hear u.. i havent got sick on anything at all. and my doctor would be pissed too.. but oh well.. im 24 .. im not giving up drinking with my freinds. i was a beer drinker before surgery but i didnt know if i could have beer. i would prefer to have that instead. i just have been staying away from carbonation.. did the beer bother u at all? maybe i would have a different effect if i tried that
Perhaps because you were sipping on the wine you didnt get much effect... if you ate before hand that could be another reason or if you were eating during. Also depends on the amount of alcohol in the wine.
Can you have beer? Depends on what your surgeon says - some say carbonation is ok, some say its not, some say after a certain amount of time. Its really up to you.
You dont have to give up drinking, just remember you are in your honeymoon period and should be capitalizing on that... you have your entire life ahead of you to do whatever you want.. right now focus on the surgery and making the changes you need to not only lose the weight but keep it off. You dont want to be 6 months, 12 months out questioning your choices ya know? Make sure you are holding yourself accountable for the liquid calories as well, you will be amazed how just 1 glass of wine, 1 beer, 1 shot, 1 mixed drink can add up calorie/sugar/carb wise.

No it didnt. I honestly didnt think of the carbonation fact. I was wondering why I just COULD NOT eat,it may have been the carbonation and how it filled me quickly. Thats poss why I got drunk pretty quickly too...no food. To add to what some others said it was a quick drunk. Maybe 30min tops.

Hey! I don't know if this is helpful at all, cause I can't really speak on behalf of you not getting drunk off the wine (thats crazy!) But I highly suggest trying Miller's new beer 64! I drink that at all the parties I go to now because it only has 64 calories, and I seem to get pretty drunk off of it :-) Hope this is helpful in some way!
