Ok so hey everyone my name is Nikki and I am new to this Forum. I am 20 (21 this december 2nd! YAY!) and started out this process at 245 (I am 5'5''), I am now down to 210 (5 months later) and just set my date for surgery(Roux-en-Y). I was never nervous for it before, but now that I know it is coming I am very nervous (i think I have been reading to much about people who have died due to complications lol).
Dose everyone get so nervous and worked up before surgery like this? I mean I have had a laparoscopic surgery before and I was never nervous about that ( I had my gallbladder removed when I was in high school).
Lol I sound like a rambling idiot, I am just worried that something will go wrong.
Help me lol.
I just want it to be December 11th already so it is over with already.

Ya I have been doing the same thing as you lol.
Bad idea! That and all I watch on T.V. are medical shows (House, Big Medicin, Emergency ER, ect).
So I can easily get ideas in my head and freak myself out lol.
I also just read on msn about some guy who is suing a hospital because his anesthesiologist did not put him out completely and he was awake but paralyzed for his surgery (so he felt everything)!!! I thought that kind of stuff was just urban myths! lol. God that would suck.
But I think I need to do what you did and just stop reading/watching that kind of stuff until this is all over and done w/.
And yes this is going to make an amazing birthday present! I just have to make sure I am healed enough in time for my engagement party (December 27th), because I am going to be standing pretty much the whole 2 hours... in heels! OUCH!

Nikki,

Hi! I'm just slightly older than you and I had gastric banding this October- I actually had my galbladder removed in high school too. This surgery was more stressful, I think, because it was elective... sorta. Meaning, my body wasn't in screaming pain where I knew I had to have the whole thing operated on. So in that way, it was more of a choice which made me question it a lot more. I'm glad I did it though.

So, are you gonna be okay only having like a week to have alcohol before you have to abstain? I know it was a bigger deal for me than I thought it was gonna be cause I've only been 21 for a little while and now I'm stuck with my bottled water and stuff.

Try not to let yourself get worked up, and ask one of us if you have any questions or such. this has been a great help to me so far in my journey, I trust you'll find it helpful as well
As someone told me lately, everyone deserves the chance to fly!

Ya I agree with you on the fact that this surgery will be more stressful because it is "elective".  I know that I have had to work too hard to get here to not have the surgery, it is just kind of scary lol.
As for not having alcohol, I think I will be fine... my family has been letting me have wine w/ them at dinner since I was a kid (I guess it is because my mom's side is french), so it was never a big deal for me to have a small glass when I was growing up. Now I started "drinking" my senior year of high school (2006) through last winter, and to tell you the truth I have kind of grown tired of it, (so it is not like I am only going to get to have it for 4 days), beside wine occasionally I don't really want it anymore lol. And I am not going to miss the hangovers lol.
The thing I am hooked on right now are these juice drinks called Fuse, the sugar free ones, those and water w/ lemon and iced tea are all I really ever drink anymore.
And thanks for you help/input, I really appreciated it!

Welcome to the board Nikki!!!

Your date will be here before you know and as I'm sure you've done your research- nothing will go wrong.  You are aware of the outcomes as well as possibly complications, fully prepared :)

You're gonna do awesome!

So I am sooooo totally feeling you on this.
I have my date set for Dec. 8th and I can't wait but im sooooooooooo flippin nervous. My mom got really sick after her surgery; she had complications. So that more than anything scares me. I hadnt been nervous through my whole process but i think its just cause its getting closer and closer that i feel this way. Well anyway I guess im the one rambling on now but good luck to you. Im sure we will both be just fine!!!

My mom has the surgery too, about a year ago, she did not have any complications though (sorry to hear that yours did ).  She did have a screen put in her leg though to prevent her from getting a blood clot a week prior to surgery.
So wow you are having yours 2 days before me! We should keep in touch and see how one another does!
I am so nervous right now I think I am going to go crazy lol!
What we both need to do is take some time and relax and try to keep ourselves busy so we don't have to think about it! lol.

Do you by any chance have a myspace or a facebook?
