Well my surgeon (Dr. Sasse) seemed like a very knowledgeable guy and answered most of my questions before I even got a chance to ask them! He gave me the pros and cons of both RNY and lap band. After the consultation I'm still leaning toward lap band since that is the least invasive and like he said who knows what other different types of surgery they will come out with in 10 to 20 years. Plus I think that's the best option for me. Now the long process of getting everything approved can begin. After talking with the finance lady she said it looks like I probably won't be able to have the surgery until after the first of the year which works. One reason why is I have to be on a liquid diet for 4 weeks before my surgery!!!! That was a little shocking but its gotta be done and will be for the best in the end! Wish me luck and hope everything gets down quickly.

 Hi!

I'm Caitlin, I also had my consultation with the surgeon I've chosen (Dr. Estakhri in CA)  she was really sweet and very knowledgeable.  She explained the risks, procedures, and lots of statistics of the surgeon and her surgery practice.  I too, was leaning towards LapBand, however before I had seen the Registered Nurse, Dietician, and the Psychologist before the surgeon the same day.  By the time I saw the doctor I had decided I want to do the RNY.  I think this is the best option for my personal lifestyle and results I want from the surgery.  Overall, I feel like I want results and I don't feel the LapBand gives me the results I want, I'd regret getting the LapBand over the RNY because of how invasive it is.  The practice I'm going to requires that I get my CRX, EKG, Blood Tests (already done), and attend 10 pre-op Nutrition and Lifestyle Change class (5 before surgery is scheduled,  I also have to lost 10% of body weight which is about 11 lbs.

My surgery office asked me when I want to do the surgery and I'm goaling for January sometime when my support people can get time off of work/school.

Good luck, as I'm sure we'll be on this journey together!
