I am about 11 months out now, and over this past month I have basically stopped losing weight. Right now I fluctuate between 189-193 (normal for me. I laways fluctuate). My goal was to reach about 163-179 which would put me into the normal BMI category for my height.

As of now I have lost 124 pounds since surgery (144 overall) which would put me at about a loss of 75% of my excess wieght, which I know is a very normal weight-loss for rny'ers.

I feel really great right now. I have accomplished all my non weight based goals, except for getting into a size 10. However I am in a size 12, and am fairly certain I would be in a size ten with plastics.  Also I greatly increased my exercise over the last few months, and while I initially saw alot more weight loss it has now stopped. I really feel comfortable with my eating, and excercise right now, and don't know if I would be comfortable chaning either one too much.

So my question is should I push my self to reach an "optimal" weight, or should I accept my weight as it is now, and be thankful I am so much healthier than I was a year ago?

I would keep pushing for the goal!  Maybe you can bump up your protein more or add a little more to your workout and see if that'll shake your metabolism up???

yeah. I've kind of been thinking about doing the 12-week body for life challenge. It doesn't seem very diffrent from what I'm doing now, so i don't think it will be too difficult, but maybe the change will bump up my weight loss again.

I vote that you keep on truckin' towards goal. You will feel even more amazing when you get there! I'm 5 months out and have stalled for 6 weeks - you might just be stalling more now that you're further out - but I don't think that means it has to be done.

I say keep pushing for it! I settled for my current weight which has fluctuated the same TEN pounds since july, and I am finally saying bye to that and trucking on! I think it may help to let your body maintain for maybe at least a month and then go hardcore again because thats what your body needs sometimes.

Also you may do some research on your bodys weight set point because I think thats what the issue is for me, because no matter what I was doing I wasn't losing, and when I would it would just go back up a week or so later. There are things that can help lower your weight set point, and upping exercise is one of them!

At this point you can still lose weight - if you are happy with your current eating/exercise plan then I would continue on and see if you lose more weight... if 2 months or so passes with no change in inches/pounds then you can decide if you want to make changes to lose more or stick where you are at. I lost weight up until 18 months out. My personal opinion would be to keep making small changes and see if the scale follows - I felt that since there is a 'typical' 10% regain I wanted to lose what I could comfortably so if I bounced back up it wouldnt be devistating. I am sure I could even at this point lose more weight but am happy with my eating and exercise.

My only other suggestion would be that since you have increased your exercise you may need to be eating more, simply eating more may cause the scale to start going down... while you are comfortable with your eating its still important to get the minimum that your body needs. I would suggest getting a metabolism test to see what your body needs... when I had mine I found I was undereating by a good 300-400 calories minimum (maximum 700 calories deficient!)... I felt a lot better when I upped my calories and had more energy. With exercise it takes your body approx 6 weeks to get use to a routine, so simply switching up what you are doing may cause a change in the scale. You dont have to change how often, just what you are doing as well as the intensity. You could also move your focus from pounds and onto inches - I was more concerned towards the end with toning/shaping up what I had left then the numbers on the scale.

KEEP GOING GIRL!!!!

i am in the same place as you.... 10 months out and stalled for the last month.  I started wondering if this was it, if 190 was as far as I was going to get, if I should just give up and accept this as my new goal weight.

NO FRICKIN WAY!!!

We have come too far to give up now.  You are so close to your goal and you deserve to reach that goal!  If you give up on yourself, what do you have left but an unmet dream?  You know you're worth more than that, Shasta.  You're a huge success so far, but it doesn't have to stop here.  So keep going, keep reaching and keep trying.  I think stalls and weight loss drastically slow as we approach goal weight, but that's normal because we burn fewer calories at rest and need fewer calories to maintain our weight.

I'd first talk with your NUT and your surgeon for their input, then consult a personal trainer to see where you can ramp up your exercise.  Maybe it's time to move your body in very different ways to train new muscle groups and systems.  Yoga? Swimming? Hoopercise?  Using your body differently may trick it into ramping up again.

You can do it, Shasta Baby!
