For those who have or do visit a psychologist

 Hey!

My insurance does not require me to visit with a psychologist but I made an appointment anyway just to talk about what I'm going to be dealing with after surgery...and now too, I suppose.   The appointment is scheduled for this Friday.   I'm not nervous or anything but I have no idea what to expect as I've never been to a pychologist before.  For those that do go or have went, what was your experience?   If all goes well, I may continue to see him just as another means of support as there are no support groups near me.

Thank you!

hey back...I'm still a preop as we know, but just from a regular therapy patient I would say if you get along with this psychologist and you feel it would help you supportwise I would keep it up if you have the money/insurance. I take it this is a psychologist associated with your surgeon? if you don't have support groups around...I hear support groups and all that are major things with WLS...keep the therapist might be a good idea. I'm sure any extra help would be good.

The psychologist isn't associated with my surgeon, this is just something I'm doing on my own.  However, he has worked with other WLS patients.  I live an hour and a half away from where I'm getting my surgery done and that's where they have support group meetings as well, but they do not work out with my schedule because they are during the week.  I still have to do some digging to if there is actually a support group in my town but as far as I know there isn't.  I am considering going regularly to therapy if I feel comfortable with him.
