Wondering(Everybody): What made you choose the particular surgery you have or going to have and not the others? After wight loss will you have plastic surgery? Does the skin ( bounce back to regular form)? Im asking because as of right now im in a weight loss program by insurance and im undecide. I was going with the lapband because i was scared but I want to do wls and regret getting that particular surgery.  One more question: DId insurance pay for the any reconstruction surgery

I dont think my skin would bounce back with all my rows.

I am not sure about the skin bouncing back.... I am praying that mine does.... and if it doesnt then yes i will get plastic surgery.. Not sure if my Ins will pay... But was told that if it gives you rashes or infections then have it documented and go from there.... Its kinda like this surgery... waiting to be approved.... My orignal choice was the lap band... but when I talked to my Dr he said that I wouldnt get the results that I want... I want to be about 160... and because that I am soo big now... that I might be still obese after the lap band was done being my tool.... so that was a major decision for me... I havent had the surgery yet but I am sooo close and I cant wait... If you ask Most people they would have done it all over again... and so far I would too.. I have lost 13lbs my self... but I want a sure thing to aide me into not eating as much... ( I am soo worried about skin sagging)  But I have a very very supportive other half and he loves me soo I can deal with it...  Good Luck on Your choice and keep us posted...

Hi there!!

I'm still pre-op (received my insurance approval yesterday) but I decided on the RNY because I knew it was the best choice for me.  I need to lose about 140 pounds to get to where I feel good and am comfortable with myself, and the RNY gives me the best chance to lose that quickly and stick with it.  I know I need the extra restriction (like the dumping syndrome!) to keep me on track and use the tool properly.  As for the plastic surgery--yes, I'm thinking about it.  I have no idea what shape my skin will be in after the weight-loss but, I'm assuming its not going to be pretty!  It has been stretched out for so long and stretched to the max!  I was told the same thing about insurance possibly paying for a tummy tuck--if the rashes/infections are documented well, you can try to have it approved.  Good luck with the process!!

I choose the RNY surgery because I have many friends that had it - they are noy 5,6, 7+ years out - my best friend had it 6 years ago and when I decided to have it I went and visted her same suregon. Also at the time I had surgery my insurance did not cover lapband and only covered the RNY.
My skin did not bounce back - to look 'normal' I would need 30,000-40,000 worth of plastic surgery... I have the chicken wings, hanging pannus, loose thighs and saggy deflated breasts - while its not as bad as others who were older/bigger its still there.
My current insurance covers nothing realting to WLS - no doctors vists, no complications and especially no reconstructive surgery - anything I want done comes out of my pocket.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

Thigh Lift 10/2020

i'm no doctor so don't think that i'm 100% correct about this. but this is what i was told by my surgeon. with the skin, not one body is the same but this is what i was told about what to expect.

1. exercise - i'm currently walking and pilates/yoga good for the body/mind!
2. if you smoke, or if you ever smoked - i did, i quit...but still did. smoking breaks down the elasticity (sp) in your skin so it won't go back as easily as a non-smoker. okay, i hope you get what i'm trying to say cause my surgeon said it a lot better.
3. sun exposure - i'm a big sun freak and also was one of those "fake and bakers" but that can have the same effect as smoking. skin will be harder to "bounce back"
4. your age and your weight - self explanitory (sp).

i'm honestly hoping that the only plastic surgery i will need/want is a boob job, they have been the first to go. i'm being optimistic, but time will only tell. i'm only 1 1/2 months out so i have a ways to go to see how my body "adjusts" it's self.

Just expect that you will most likely have hanging skin that you will not like. weather you have plastics will really be a personal choice. As for the reason I chose RNY is because it is the only one my insurance covered at the time, but I am very happy I went that route. My insurance now covers lap-band , but kind of glad it didn't at the time because I now realize that I need some degree of Mal-absorption. I would go over your eating history honestly with your doctor to determine the best surgery for you.

Best wishes

hi girl.
i choose the RNY because i`ve talk to a lot of people who had WLS. and the most of it. had the RNY and they are very happy and healthy. the other ones who had for example the band told me not to do it. `cuz the results is not as good as the RNY ( it depends of the people, maybe the  band is a good choose for you particular case)

the RNY was the safe way to go for me.
but you may wanna check other tipes of surgery like the DS. it sound intersting.

about the skin issue. i`ve have been fat all my live and my family have very soft skin so ì`m having problmes in the arm area. but the rest of the body is fine. until now. do´t worry about that is genetic. `cuz i know a lot of young girls who had surgery that don´t have skin issue.

in my case i paid for my surgery `cuz i`m from mexico and my insurece dosen´t cover that kindda suegery in the states. so they wo´t  pay for my plastics.

don´t worry about the skin. it can be fix.

take care.
hugs.
mariana.

I want to thank all of you all because you'll have given me some good information. I have heard good and bad things about all the surgeries. I have about two months before I see my surgeon for his consult so I still have a little time. I just glad that my pcp is behind me on whatever surgery I choose. I will try to keep everyone inform thanks again.

I chose RNY. I seriously considered getting lapband until I learned more about it. Basically, the deciding factor for me is that the "hardware" like the band and port only last 8-10 years and then you have it replaced...another surgery! I am in this for the long hall. I am young, I can't be having a surgery every 10 years! I just thought with that piece of info I would have better sucess long term! Good luck and do your research.

RNY is the way to go if your in this for the long run....I was scared of having some object around my stomach..LOL. And I'm glad that I did go with the rny. Jus @ 4 months, I've lost 88 pounds, so check my profile out, and good luck !

I'm living this surgery and not letting the surgery live me...
