hey y'all, just wanted to know if anyone knew of a good way to add protein to my diet. I thought I'd start trying stuff before the surgery so I have a little leg up when the day comes. What do y'all like?

I would start drinking protein... my favorite is Strawberry Kiwi Nectar by Syntrax, you can get it from the Vitamin Shoppe.  Mix it with a little raspberry ice crystal light.  Delicious!  Taste like Koolaid.  I drink two servings a day, as a mid morning supplement and an afternoon supplement.  22 grams of protein per scoop

I like Any Whey by Optimum Nutrition. Its tasteless and I just add it to my SF Cocoa or milk. I can't stand the smell of taste of anything else

Along with powders, its a conscious decision to start adding more protein based foods into your diet.  Go for lean beef, chicken, turkey, pork (all prepared leanly of course) instead of pastas and breads.  Add Tuna, etc to your salads.  Have jerkey for a snack, yogurts and cottage cheese.

I do start my morning with a shake.  I bought my powder from Costco, huge bag for $30.  27 grams per serving, etc etc.

Good Luck!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

I would buy sample packets of the protein because you might not like the flavor and money adds up quickly. There are also things called protien bullets that have 42-50 grams of protein in them. Some people say oh they aren't "complete proteins" because they are whey but my surgeon and nutritionist recommend them esepcially early out because you won't be able to eat much. You won't be able to eat enough to get all your protein in. They aren't that bad. They taste like thick cool aid to me. I used them in the beginning and honestly I think that is why my protein levels were good at my 3 month check up. Most people's are really low. Hope that helps. Oh by the way you can buy one tube at a time to try to flavors too!

Greek yogurt! Its packed with protein - you can not only eat it yogurt style, but use it in lieu of mayo (I typically do 1/2 mayo, 1/2 yogurt you cant always sub it 100%)... in lieu of sour cream, as a base for dips (I mix w/lipton onion soup mix).
Cottage cheese - you can use in lieu of sour cream and/or ricotta cheese in recipies.
