I read somewhere that oral contrceptives aren't absorbed as well by a pouch as they are by a 'regular' stomach. I currently take Seasonique, which I love, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard otherwise, or has had to switch BC methods after WLS. Any help would be appreciated.

I have heard that to and apparently they can't be absorbed properly. I found out Friday that I am pregnant. I had been on BC pill for 4 years. Make sure if you are on the pill use a 2nd method if you do not want to get pregnant.
best of luck

Well, congratulations are in order! However I don't plan on having kids for almost another decade, so I need to talk to my gyno or WLS doctor.

I would recommend the Nuvaring.  It's very easy to use, lose dose, and reliable.  I've been using it since considering wls and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I considered Nuvaring, but I suffer migraines from estrogen withdrawl, and Seasonique has a continual low dose of estrogen during the 12th week. I'm also considering Depo or something implantable.

I wouldn't suggest any of the IUDs unless you've already had a kid...  I have heard good things about Yaz as an oral contraceptive.  Let us know what you frind out.

I LOVE my  IUD but I've also had a kiddo, Renae, do you only say that because of the dialation thing? Because My son was born C-section and I never fully dialated and I had very minimal pain upon insertion. I wouldn't trad the IUD for any other form of BC though, I never gained weight, no skin issues, It didn't make me a crazy person, and I don't have to deal with "aunt flow" also there's not near as many side effects at oral BC (blood clots, stroke etc) and it's good for 5 years so it's cost effective, and the best part is you don't have any hassle (did I put it in, did I take my pill, now what day was I supposed to change my ring/patch) It may not before everyone...but for me it's the best!

Im having a hard time with BC right now too. After my son(20 months ago) I had the IUD inserted and 4 months later I had to have it removed because my dr and I thought it was making me sick, but it ended up being my thyroid.. I also had a c-section and I didnt dilate more than 2 cm and when I had it inserted.. it hurt like hell and hurt just as bad when it was removed.. I wasnt on any BC other than condoms for over a year and then I started the pill and I hate it.. I have a hard time remembering to take it, so I think I might get the IUD again. I will talk with my PCP on thursday about it. I have heard of alot of girls getting pregnant on the nuvaring.. Ive heard of it moving because of the drastic weight loss... I dont know if thats true or not.

Also congrats Kira on the baby! How exciting.
