First Consultation - update
Hi everyone,
This update is well overdue as I had my first consultation on Sept 10th, however it's only now that I actually feel ready to write this. So here goes...
Overall, I think the consultation went well. I definitely came out with mixed feelings though - We discussed the various types of WLS and what would be right for me. Although I was leaning towards the DS, the surgeon suggested that RNY would be better, mainly as it would a much shorter procedure and less risky.
The surgeon's probably not the type you would describe as a warm and cuddly, although I think that perhaps my perception was thrown off by the nerves, and also by the fact that we were talking about my weight which is not my favourite subject, and not too easy for me to talk about.
The one disappointment I had, was that the waiting list is minimum 6 months (and more likely to be 9 - 12.) I had sort of geared myself up to have it done next week, but that is not to be. I am going to use this year though, and try and get myself as fit and healthy as I can be for my surgery, so exerthon here I come!
Thanks for reading, and for sharing your stories and support, if anyone wants to add me as a friend - feel free.
Ooh and way off topic, but I must share this... My sister and I managed to get tickets to see New Kids on the Block on their reunion tour in London in January - very exciting!

Hi Jocklyn,
Thanks for your reply and apologies for the delay in my response.
Yep 9 - 12 mths is how long I have to wait to have it done here, that's just the way it is!
I am actually really happy with my surgeon - (I know that didn't come across too well in my 1st post) - he is one of the leading authorities on WLS in Europe, and he is very ethical. He explained how he could move my surgery forward if I had it done in Southampton, (which would be much more expensive) BUT said he would much prefer me having it done here on-island, as he would be right here if there were any compliations. He also has a realy impressive history of this surgery so I am happy.
I think my post sounded v negative as I was a bit disappointed at the waiting time.

You know what? That 6-12 mos wait is really sucky. But you weren't given a flat-out "no". So you're on your way! It took me 13 months to get on the surgery table, so I totally understand the frustration and the sometimes-helplessness that comes with waiting. But you don't have to remain idle. Utilize that time to research all you can and really get comfy with your surgeon and surgery choice. Compile recipes, articles, tips, inspiration, and insight into a resource guide for your new post-op life. Join a support group and attend regularly. Read books on WLS. Try protein products to get an idea of what you like. All of these things will help you feel proactive, in control, and most of all moving forward. And soon the time will pass and we'll all be cheering you onto the Losers Bench!

Hi Heather,
Thank you so much for your positive message.
Looking back 12 months really is not that long, I know it will fly by - and you are so right, I am going to use that time constructively and positively (I have joined the exerthon - so that's a positive step!)
Thanks again
Marie
PS - I have been a lurker for a while and I have to say you look fab! You are a big inspiration, your pics are beautiful.
