Hi guys. I know its normal to have a stall and for your body to heal itself and all that, but Its been 4 weeks since I have had my surgery and I havent lost weight in 18 days! Ive actually gained 1 lb...

How long does the first stall last? Although I know its normal, I cant help but think that I must not be doing something right.. I know I shouldnt be comparing myself to my dad because men lose faster, but we had our surgery on the same day and his stall only lasted 12 days and hes already lost another 5 lbs within a weeks time. Im getting a little depressed and bummed. My first goal was to be at 299 and im stuck at 305-306. I should be excited because I have lost almost 50 lbs from my highest 3 months ago, but im not.. I havent lost inches either... I checked and im the same as I was 3 weeks ago. Please tell if there is something else I can do... Thanks. Sorry for being so whinny...

Are you getting in all of your surgeons recommended Protein? How about all your water? Do you have regular Bowel Movements? Are you walking every day?

I find that I stall when I'm eating too much cheese (which doesn't help with BMs), not getting all my lean proteins in, drinking my water, or walking every day. I try to aim for 1+ miles of continuous walking a day.

I've been having issues getting all my protein in and I'm at that point where I can't stand any of the shakes, so I'm going to start making ice cream...which technically is just the shake, only run through the ice cream maker. Somehow I can get that in just fine.

More protein will help you lose weight, so make sure you're getting whatever your surgeon/nutritionist recommended!

You are correct in not comparing yourself with your father.  Men have more muscle, etc thus lose.

You lost a tremendous amount prior to surgery!  That plus the surgery itself can easily shock you body into a small stall.  Your gain could easily be hormonal or water fluctuations.

You can always change your diet some and definately keep drinking your water!  Our weather here is over 100 one day and the next in the 80s, its terrible to the animals let alone my own body he he... just gotta keep drinking.

You can do it!!!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

your body is being stubborn, but it has no choice but too lose - the calories in are nowhere near the calories out at this point....hang in there, just like the long wait for surgery, this too shall pass....congrats on making it over to the losers' side...

Thanks everyone! Its nice to see you around again michael! I think I do need to get more protein in. Im also tired of the shakes so I bought some isopure drinks.. NASTY! Im trying to find something that I can tolerate.. but the only thing that I was able to tolerate, my NUT says we arent allowed to take anymore.. BOO. Im getting plenty water, and im having a very regular BM everyday, which has surprised me..

I was cleared to start excercising last week, but its been hard to get into it again. Before the surgery I was excercising almost 3 hours a day, and now I dont feel like I have the energy. I definetly need to start walking again. There shouldnt be any excuse for not doing anything.. and not losing the weight. I guess I just need to sit down and reevaluate it all. Thanks again so much!

Hey girl- the same thing happened to me and would frustrate the hell of of me. I posted to several forums about my stalls back then. Now I'm 8 months out, and 150 or so down with 30 more to go. What I found out is that I dump weight once a month. I won't loose or will barely lose for 3-4 weeks, and then alll the sudden in one day I'm down 10-15 pounds. It's really weird. I would suggest weighing yourself once a month. I know some people weight once a day, once a week, etc etc., but you're just going to psych yourself out that way. And remember, that alot of times you'll lose INCHES and not pounds. So also measure yourself once a month and watch those numbers shrink.

Keep it up- follow your surgeon's plan- and don't get frustrated. Every body is different. Your body is currently in shock and is going to mess with you for weeks, maybe months, maybe years. Just keep on keepin' on and it WILL happen.
