It has begun...

I've always had really thick hair, so I was never afraid of losing it. I figured losing a little hair would do my head some good. Well, the hair loss has started and now i'm starting to worry. I'm about 5 months out and it's cooming out in wads all day long, everytime I touch it. Is this normal?! Should I be worried?! Will it fix itself by eating more protein?! Or is there something else I need to do to fix this problem? Please Help. My sanity depends on it! =]

welcome to club lol. its just something that happens to most of us, myself included. yup upping your protien will help. are you taking extra bition? if not pick some up. i have herd that zinc helps too. also nixion shampoo and conditioner helps. and dont stress over it too much, stress can lead to balding too. the good thing, is more than likely you are the only one to notice.

Hi Holly! I actually had Lap-Band and have not experienced this problem thank goodness. My best friend had RNY a year before I had my surgery and she did lose some of her hair. She had really thick hair. When it started to come out she went back to her doctor for a check up and he told her to make sure she is taking ALL of her vitamins and not skipping them or accidently forgetting about them. She did that but also started eating LOTS of fish. She has always been a fan of it and its loaded with protein so she ate it quite often. I'm not sure whether the fish and vitamins helped or whether it was just a phase of the weight loss journey but after about three months of gradual thinning, her hair stopped coming out and it hasn't happened anymore since that one time. Maybe that will be the case for you! I hope so! Hope this helps to ease your mind a little!

When you start to lose hair its from what happened 2-3 months ago - more protein will not 'fix' it but it will help in the future.. you should be eating your minimum protein requirements each and every day and that will help. As time passes the hairloss will slow down and stop as long as you are eating properly. You can also take the suppliment biotin - it will NOT help with hairloss but helps with new hair growth (all hair, not just head!).
