Hey Post-Ops: Question

Ok, so I was always the one who thought to myself, "I'm not going to question my weight loss. My body will lose as it wants to," and that I would be proud of whatever my # was.

HOWEVER... my 4th month out will be this Friday. As of my last weigh in (about 1 week ago), I was down 78 lbs. since surgery at about 3 months and 3 weeks out. Now, of course logically my mind says, "When have you EVER lost 78 lbs, let alone in a little over 3 months?" But the illogical part of my brain is wondering, "Is it enough?" And I know I couldn't keep losing like I was, but now I keep getting freaked out wondering, "Is that it? Maybe that is all my body will lose and I'll be stuck here forever."

I've been working out with a Personal Trainer and she says the weight loss will slow but the inches will come off (which I can see), but I'm still getting freaked out that my body will plateau and stay there.

So my question is this, is this a normal thought? Did everyone else have the same thought? Also, were you scared that you were eating too much or what you were eating wasn't good enough? I eat mainly protein all the time with some fruits and veggies. I stay away from carbs. I don't drink soda, etc. But I may have 1 Medium SF Vanilla Iced Coffee from McD's (90 cal- 2 sugars) every other day or so. So I keep thinking, what if that is making my weight slow down!?

Any suggestions or advice or am I just being paranoid?

Your thought process is VERY normal! You are losing at the same rate that I did (or very near) I lost 100lbs in 6 months and I am now a year and a half out and have lost a total of 122 lbs. So It does slow...but you are doing great...be careful about caffeine it can slow your progress (i still don't drink caffeine...)

Thank you so much for your feedback. I know, I'm trying to limit myself even if it is Sugar-Free, but it's such a nice change from Crystal Light and water. UGH!

I think you're doing great. I personally feel like caffiene is fine, even a lot of it, as long as you drink extra water and don't let it dehydrate you. I'm sure others will think I'm nuts, but it worked for me.....yes you will see a noticeable slow down - it's simple mathematics if you're body uses about 10 calories for every pound each day then that's 10 less calories towards your fat-burning calorie "deficit" for each pound you lose. So someone who ways 300 pounds will burn 1000 calories less per day then someone who does the exact same activity each day at 200 lbs....follow? I weigh 160 now, so basically I need 1600 calories a day to maintain. When I was 300 eating 1600 calories a day created a 1400 calorie deficit - or 9800 calories per week - which coincidently equals the amount of calories in 2.5-3 lbs of fat....easy to see why we lose more rapidly the bigger we are right?

Hi Michael,

Yes, that does actually make sense. Thanks for helping to explain that. It makes much more sense to me now! And I agree with you on the caffeine thing. I know that at least my surgeon's office says we can have up to 32 oz. caffeine per day. Of course the ideal drink is water, but there is only so much water a person can drink without getting totally water-logged! Thanks again!

hi april.

i think this weight issue depends of a lot of factor that is out of our hands for exaple, how much weight you need to lose, your metabolism, etc.
I`m gonna be  7 months out nex sunday. i`ve lost 87 pounds. and this last month i only lost 3 lbs. i know is not much but it was summer and i was not taking care very much of what i was eating.and i just went 3 times a week to the gym. but i got 30 lbs lef to lose. i know i`ll get to my goal. but there is always a feeling of " what if i`m a faliure" but i guess that is normal.

you are doing amazing, if you do all right things you have to lose so hang in there.

take care.

Mariana.
