confused...any advice..?
Hey everybody! I am new at posting but not of the OH forums. I have been following them for awhile. I just wanted to get some suggestions on how YOU chose WHICH WLS to get...
Here is my story... I am 22 yrs old, 5'8 312lbs....I have a 6 year old son and have been obese to morbidly obese since I was 7. I have GERD, High blood pressure and breathing issues. Went to the Dr today to finally talk to him about WLS, instead, he brings it up to me due to all of my health issues and concerns. I have been researching WLS for over 2 years. I have tried almost every diet or weight loss tool available with little to no result. I just want to be healthy and have engery to keep up with my son... VERY ACTIVE.....!!!
I tend to think way to much into things and have read the memorial sections as well as many of the complications forum... NOW I am even more confused with what to do... I have been waiting a long time to talk to my DR...about WLS and now that he talked to me about it, im really confused about the whole situation... I KNOW i need this tool to improve my life but at what price...?
I posted on the main forum and received some very good advice...just wondering what people in their 20's thought about it...
THANKS!!!
I look at all of these risk and I realize that my body may be able to fight because I'm 26 but what about when I'm 46 or 76. I want to live my life and be healthy. This surgery is more than just looking good for me, it's about taking a risk thats benefits out weigh anything else.
If I were you I'd locate members on this page in your area and read what they have to say about their doctors. I'd then attend a seminar and I cannot stress how important these seminars are! Please Please Please go to just one if you dont do anything else. It's like a crash course. Also, my old doctor was not a fan of the surgery so whenever I brought it up she always kinda smacked it down...or discouraged it and pointed out the negative. She just believed I could lose the weight on my own which I'm sure I could too if you put me in a weight loss camp for the next year or two and kept a trainer and personal chef by my side but just like everyone else on the board I have a life. I have a job, I go to school, I have responsibilities and sometimes they don't permit me to stop what I'm doing and focus on just me like I should!
Good luck to you but don't let other people make this huge decision for you. I like to go to people's pages and locate the date they had their surgery and then read their blogs around that time. It's not all glorious but almost all of them are inspiring in one way or another.

You're at the age now where anyone would love to be in your spot to get surgery. For years I was always thinking WLS was so drastic but finally spoke to my medical doctor who agreed the surgery would be great for me. I'm 22 and just lost 30lbs already in my first month since RNY surgery. Beforehand, I was on diabetic medicine, highblood pressure medicine, thyroid medicine, Prilosec for heartburn and a few others. For me to do this surgery was to better my life down the road. I was at about 280 or 290 when I considered the surgery. I defintely dont regret it. I'm already off 75% of my medicine after my first month, and im feelin great. Stop reading the bad things like memorials and complications. WLS is a lot more perfected then it was 5+ years ago when it was more dangerous. It's best to do the surgery when your young because once you get older, risks of complications increases with age.
