Hmm... I don't know if you watch your carb intake or not, but I've heard that soy crisps are a good snack. They have protein, but they are little high in carbs for me (14 gr, only 2 gr sugar). You can get these at Trader Joe's.
Also, there are some protein bars available at Trader Joe's, too. I tried the ThinkThin bars and the Chunky Peanut Butter one was pretty good. I mean, its not a candy bar, but by protein bar standards it isn't half bad. There are several other flavors available. ThinkThin bars have 20 gr of protein and zero sugar, but they do contain sugar alcohols.
You could also bring some snack packs of nuts. I don't know if you can buy them at the store, but I like pepitas. They are pumpkin seeds without the shells. They are pretty high in protein, too. Otherwise, almonds are a great choice. Just make sure to watch portion sizes if you don't buy the prepacked snack bags.
I hope that you have a great time in NY!

South Beach High Protein Cereal Bars
Fiber One Bars
Detour Low Sugar Protein Bars
Raw Mixed Nuts
Turkey Jerky
Soy Crisps
tuna in the can or pouch - or those tuna/chicken lunch kits (tuna, crackers, mayo, relish)
For protein shakes - easy would be something pre-made a lot of people like EAS and Slim Fast Optima, Muscle Milk Light. As for powder mixes its really personal preference.. I like BioChems 100% Whey Protein in vanilla
Typically when I go away I will bring some of the dry stuff like above, then I go to the store and get a few staples like greek yogurt, cottage cheese, fresh fruit/veggies, deli turkey etc.

My favorite things I pack for being away from home is a couple of the below....
Pure Protein bars (20 grams of protein and very low in sugar)
1 oz packs of peanuts and/or almonds
beef or turkey jerky
weight control oatmeal packet (7 grams of protein)
I am also a big fan of the tuna lunch packs
Personally if I am only going to be gone for 2 days or less I don't pack the dry protein powder (I bring the pure protein bars). But if I am gone for more than 2 days I have packed the powder too, you can buy many brands in sample packets at Kroger or GNC.
