Hey guys

I had the gastric bypass about 13 months ago and I wanted to get on birth control.

I was told so many different things by different people (including Doctors!) Some people say any kid of birth control is good... others say pills are bad. Shots are good but make you gain? (I THINK MY HEADS GOING TO SPIN!!!

So i thought I'd ask you guys what you thought? or what some of you may take?

Thanks for all you help!!!

I haven't had my surgery yet but I have a very small iud called Mirena and I must say it's been wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've had it for 4 years and no complications and NO pregnancies. Ask your doctor about it. Its worry free and you don't have to worry about taking a pill. It last for 5 years. Or you can see about paraguard, thats a 10 year one. However I don't know anyone with that one. Hope this helps. take care.

I have tried everything out there... what a head ache!  I started with the depo shot and I am a part of the 10% who have opposite effects (constant bleeding).  Then I tried the ring... it was horrible for me.  I had horrible mental side effects.  Next were tons of different pills and only some worked, but only a short period of time.  Now I'm on the patch.  Although it says its for those under 200 pounds, I've been on it for 1.5 months and have begun losing weight again and no adverse effects- yet.  I was 223 when I started and last Monday was down to 213!  So we shall see!

But, believe me, I know the craziness of birth control.

I was about to say the same thing, girl!  I was thinking oh no!  I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter from the patch.  I still had it on the day they they told me I was pregnant.  I do hope it works better now... maybe they've made improvements to it!

Thanks for the heads up chica, I'm just trying to stop my bleeding :(  Once that works I'll make sure to get onto something more protective.

At this point I'm trying anything to stop the bleeding.  LOL  I don't have a partner at this time nor do I see one in the future.  Thanks for the heads up, though!

my surgeon actually ordered my birthcontrol for me while i was in the hospital because i forgot them. he is a-ok with the pills, thats going to be a question for your surgeon. i however moved from the pill, because i was bleeding but anyways i now have the implanon birthcontrol. i LOVE it. lol it is inserted in to your arm, but then leave it alone fro 3 years. its the same type of birthcontrol as the mirena, but not inserted down there. have you tried the nuvaring?

I have the Mirena IUD.  I have never given birth so it hurt like...well...it hurt a whole heck of a lot during the placement but I've now had it for 18-ish months with no problems other than initially.  I tried depo, which made me crazy and stopped my weight loss, I tried the ring, but couldn't get it to stay put and I do not trust the pills because of the malabsoption post-op.  The IUD has been very convinient for me.
