Doubt, Fate, A New Doctor, More Money and all 2 days before surgery!
So i originally scheduled my surgery with the 1st surgeon i saw. Usually not the best thing to do but it's always worked out so well for me.
Yesterday i was BEYOND excited for my surgery and then i get to my pre-op appt and things came down so quickly. The surgeon didn't even sit down to answer my question, he made me feel rushed and i forgot some of the questions i even WROTE down! After i went to meet with the office lady and she asks "Have you gotten your blood work done?"
"Uhmm no, i thought thats what this pre-op visit was for?"
"Oh no, you were supposed to schedule that with the hospital yourself, I must of forgot to tell you."
I was SO MAD! I already took that afternoon off of work! So i made an appt for 230 pm today. I also thought that payment was taken care of on the morning of surgery, NOPE that was the same day as well. I was VERY misinformed. So i had to swing by this morning to pay for what insurnace didn't cover which was the LBL, they only cover the tummy abd ab muscles. So i go and pay and she says...
"You know, the other 2k that you have to pay to the hospital? Yeah they don't take care credit"
WTF! You can't drop these things on people! If you say "we take care credit" then you should say, well we do, but that specific hospital DOESNT! Maybe it was my own fault but still i was angry.
So i'm driving back to work and i don't know if it is my nerves or if the bad feeling i was having about the surgeon was real. I take my feelings very seriously. So i'm nervous and thinking what to do and my phone rings. It's a number i don't recognize and i answer, which i usually don't and it's a girl that works for this other surgeon i saw.
Dr. Basu is a surgeon in Houston that is going to be speaking at the Houston OH conference. I saw him on there a month or so ago and made an appt to see him since it was free and it wouldn't hurt. His staff and himself went above and beyond to answer all my questions and i loved them. But sadly, they didn't have any openings and i already had time off of work and i start school at the end of August so my date was it. I felt i had no other choice (even though i did). Raquel called to check in on me and to say they got the insurance approval. I told her what was going on and i loved Dr. Basu but i had the time off of work and blah blah blah and then she says....
Dr. Basu JUST had a cancellation for Thursday (same day and time of my original surgery!!!)
I couldn't believe it. She said she would get the quote for the LBL with the front covered by my insurance. She called back and the quote was DOUBLE this other dr. And believe me the lesser quote was still a lot!! So i tell her there is no way and i was said and she says, well what did this other doctor quote you? And i tell her and she said, well i can do that if there is another procedure. So they matched the price and i am getting a Mons lift as well! (for 1k more that is!) Overall worth it for my state of mind and happiness! So i went got my blood work done, called and canceled with the other doctor, and since i JUST paid this morning they were nice and weren't going to charge me the 500 dollar cancellation fee. And currently they are calling in my prescription to Walgreens and e-mailing me the dr's post and preop instructions.
I definitely think today was fate and now i am excited and not nervous anymore. I really feel like something bad would have happened if i stuck with the 1st surgeon, and now i feel confident.
They say everything happens for a reason, right?
