 Hi!
My daughter is 19 years old. And wondering how much weight she should be losing? She weighed 350 pounds when she started and now is down to 320 or so. She is very happy she had it done.
She wants to get out more and feels good about her self. I enjoy reading posts. I would like to know if we should get a special therapist that just deals with food issues ? What is the most successful way to go?  And we are going to a support group once a month.

Thank you,
Barbara

Its only been a month and she's down thirty pouds?  Amazing!!  I'd think she's right on track... but I'm not a doctor.

But encourage her to get and do things, that's a must.  If I had to do it over I definately would seek a therapist.  I'm planning to see one as soon as school starts to deal with my body dismorphia and other emotional issues that are calmed through food.  I believe my journey would have been a bit more calm had I sought out help within my first year (I'll be 3 years in January.)

Support groups are key!  I visit one twice a month, I adore it.

Good luck Barbara!

The more things the change, the more they're still the same.

Barbara,

I haven'y had surgery yet but right now I am going to behavior modification (as a requirement of my surgeon). It has been really helpful. It helps me to deal with my food issues. I am going thru a counsler.  Good luck!

I wish your daughter the best!!!  I started at 355, and one month out I was down 30 pounds.   My surgeon said I was ahead of schedule by a few pounds.   So I would think she is also right on track!!!  The support groups help, but I also think it it helps to get moving.   I try to work physical activity into my schedule 5 times a week.

Thats amazing! I think Jaci is right. Seeing a therapist will be very helpful. I am currently with a therapist and I've only been required to go once. It's extremely helpful and even though mine isnt a nutrionist, she's calmed down my nerves to make me better able to control my hunger and emotional response to food. I still get the urge to eat when I'm bored, sad, happy, or want to celebrate but the therapy has definitely put things into perspective for me. Good luck to you and your daughter!

congrats for been sucha good mom and for your daugter surgery. i know how moms deal with their doughter`s weight. my mom and my dad suffered my overweight a lot `cuz they hated to se me in pain. i think more than I.

the best thing she can do is go to a support group and if she can see a nutricionist. that help a lot. other thing she can do is to take note of everything she eats. people who write down the food intake lose more weight that people that dosen´t ( i don´t do that, but i should) keep encouraging her to keep on track.

introduce her to this web side and tell her than in this forum is a lot people like her fighting to stay healthy and have so much love and support to give.

good luck.
