Home from Camp and it was AMAZING!
Hey ladies and gents,
Did you miss me
? I got back yesterday afternoon from a fun-filled week working as a counselor at a camp for people with special needs. It was awesome, a lot of work for sure, but completely amazing. I couldn't have done this pre-op, no way. We walked, played, swam, pitched tents, cooked over a fire, did activities, danced like crazy and just plain old had a super active week. I'll fill in all the details when I get a chance (I'm leaving shortly to take my little nephew to the county fair, we're going to see the goats and car races) but for now suffice it to say...
This past week demonstrated to me over and over that the best thing about my weight loss is being able to help others to the degree that they deserve and to the degree that I have always wanted. I love people and I have always loved helping people, but at 300 pounds it just wasn't possible for me to do all the helpful things I wanted to do. So while it is nice to wear cute clothes and feel pretty, it is 100% more gratifying to be able to put a smile on someone's face because you helped them do something they wouldn't have otherwise been able to do (example: one of my campers has cerebral palsey, so she is wheelchair bound, but this week my fellow counselor and I helped her get out of that chair for fishing, listening to performers, and even to swim in the pool. I get teary-eyed thinking of how grateful she was just to be able to do simple things like that). It is a truly wonderful life!

I have photos but for the sake of the campers' privacy we're not allowed to post them online. Take my word for it though,it was splendid.
And we saw more cows than anything, but there was a special 4-H goat show this afternoon we saw. We mostly saw brown cows, like the one in my facebook photo. Sam thinks they are horses because they are brown like horses and not black and white like most of the cows he sees, but he just loves it. He wants to hug and kiss all the animals.
We had a great time, Sam even won some prizes at the game booths for throwing balls into a bucket and picking out matching ducks. Yay for county fairs!
