beer
Does anyone here drink beer at all? i know u cant have alcohol for 6 monthes- a year.. but after that can u have beer? theres soooooooooo many differnt answers on the carbonation thing! im totally fine with giving up soda.. but if i go out i only like to drink beer! its not like i drink all the time either! we maybe go out drinking like twice a month.. sometimes not even that. i havent had my surgery yet but im just wandering about this. i saw people post this on the main board before and people just "yelled" at them for thinking about drinking alcohol! but i figured on this board there would be more people that would understand!
Im in college and i live in a military town (hubby is a marine)! lol not drinking beer with everyone would be like a sin! lol

i have no problems drinking beer. i did wait however like a year and a half after surgery before i started drinking it. i didn"t go without drinking, just beer. it was hard cause before beer was all i drank when i went out. i have no problems with it now. just like anything else though you'l need to drink it slow and take small sips. well you'll know what your body can handle and at what pace. hope this helped.

I have no problems at all with beer. I waited until about 3 months post op before I had one. I enjoy it in moderation several times a week and in excess about once a month or so. Although I am on a cleanse until the 21st (my 2 year anniversary) to try and get to goal.
I drink beer just fine.
There is ZERO proof about carbonation stretching anything - ask for a study, google it, ask your surgeon if they have personally dont any studies... I have yet to come across anything proving this 'theory'... carbonation can be uncomfortable and irritating for some (burping/gas etc) but others are fine, you just need to listen to your body and learn what you can and cannot handle.

I drink beer. It hits me hard and fast though....It depends on the type of surgery you have - if you have an RNY vs. a lap-band for instance. If your pyloric valve at the bottom of your stomach stays in tact it won't alter the way alchohol effects you as much...I've had some issues with it, I've cut back - I went through a period for a couple months where I wouldn't cut myself off or pace myself properly and I regretted it. My tolerance is so low now, that drinking 5 or 6 beers which would have had me feeling "very nice" before, puts me on the floor now - literally (my friends have been kind enough to message me with cell-phone photos to document it!)...If you search through the old topics on this forum you'll find a bunch on this topic, but when you're ready to try it, post again and we can talk about some more specifics if you still have questions!
thank u for ur response Michael! i am having the RNY. i guess ill just have to wait and try it! another thing i was wandering about is that people say u get drunk really fast and then sober up really fast! sooo.. once u sober up do u just drink again to keep ur buzz all night? or whats up with that?
I don't neccesarily agree with that sober up quicker theory. At least based on my own experience...Maybe sometimes, but normall I feel like I'm in a funk for a few hours afterwords, and often it's not a good kind of funk...it feels like more of a low-blood sugar kind of a funk...I will say though that after some bad experiences this summer, the last time I drank I payed really close attention to my pacing and trying to limit myself and I was able to maintain a great buzz by drinking about five beers over the course of about five hours, so for me it seems to really about recognizing not just my limit but how fast I consume the alchohol, and for now I'm just gonna stick to beer, part of my problem was I was following beers with vodka shots and mixed drinks..
