New to the board, surgery coming up soon

Hi everyone! My name is Genevieve. I'm 26, live in Northern Viginia (DC area) and I'm having RNY surgery this coming Monday at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA. I am currently 246, high weight was 250, goal is 140.

I am extremely anxious at this point, but I know this is what I need to do to reclaim my life. I've been very overweight my entire life, my parents put my on WW when I was 6...it just went downhill from there.

My boyfriend has been wonderful through this whole process and amazingly supportive. The select few friends that I've told have reacted equally as well.
My family is another story all together. My mother is the only one who is mildly supportive, but she really doesn't want me to have it done. Everyone else (Father, brother, aunts, cousins, uncles) thinks it's a mistake. I've written them off at this point. Anyone else have a similar family experience?

HI genevieve and welcome to the 20's board. Good luck on your upcomming surgery. regards to your family, its most likely they are just scared. so just try to understand that they care about you and dont want you to have surgery when you dont "need" it, but of course we all understand that you do need this surgery to have a longer healthier life. also i see your bmi, you might want to check out the lightweight board also, if you havent already.

hi genevieve. congrats for your surgery.

i have very supportive friends i can say that they were more exited than me i was terrified. and dad was the responsable of having my surgery done. he offered. cuz i live in mexico and i had myh surgery in houston so he paid for it. so i thank him for that.

all my family was very suportive, but my gran father was very worried about it. but now that he sees me happy and healthy he know was a good decition.

good luck and don´t worry about other people you have to be happy with yoru decition.
