De-nied.
I just got off the phone with UnitedHealthcare and was told that my request for authorization for plastics (panniculectomy and gynocomastia/ male breast reduction) has been denied because it is not covered under my plan...I will get a letter explaining more. and will talk it over with my surgeon's office to determine how to appeal it, but for now it is denied. I told myself and others that I won't be disappointed, but right now I am. I'm very disappointed. It took ten months just to get to this point. How much longer am I going to be dealing with this! My hunch is that I'll be dealing with it until I save up enough money to visit Tijuana and have it taken care of there.
I'm sorry Michael, that is a huge bummer. Hopefully this will turn out to be just an annoying setback that is soon put behind you. In the meantime document all the unpleasantries that go along with having excess skin and maintain your weight to get more amunition for your appeal.

Hey Mike! That is a bummer!! I had to fight with UHC a TON just to get my WLS covered. Keep fighting - will your doc's office help appeal? That is what got my approval. My doc, along with the insurance coordinator and the program director, had a conference call with the insurance doc & got me an approval. I know for a fact that appealing on my own (I got denied like 3 times on my own) didn't hold the same clout that my doc did.
