Hello everyone,

I have been poking around here a little bit for awhile now and decided to introduce myself. My name is Amanda and I am 20 years and on my way to have gastric bypass. The journal so far has been really good and I am down 21 pounds since my intial visit with the nutritionist so I am pretty excited on that. I have an appointment to meet with my surgeon on August 8th. I have gathered information around the boards on what to expect from there. I just wanted to ask for some advice since it seems as if the chances people in here and being students are pretty high. I currently go to school in Rochester NY at RIT where our school system is setup on the quarter system. Which basically ends up being 10 weeks of school week off. I have been racking my brian on what to do and when it would be possible to get my surgery. I have a feeling that the chances of being able to get it done before school are going to be pretty low, but I imagine that I won't know for sure until I visit with my surgeon.  I guess I am just looking for advice on what I should do. Do you guys think it would be rude to call and see if it is at all possible to get into see the surgeon sooner? I really don't wanna seem pushy or impatient at all I just realllly don't know what to do. Do you think it would be impolite of me to explain my situation? I know there could be 150 different variables to not being able to get surgery within the time that is convenient for me.  I have weighed the options of taking off my fall quarter of school for medical reason which seems as if it would be a good idea too. I really hope this made sense. Honestly though, ANY input at all I would seriously be appreciative of. Also I am excited to be apart of this little group! ha

Hi Amanda,

My name is Pearl and I had a VSG on June 10th.  I'm also in school.  The best advice I can give you is to do when your off of school.  I've had a really hard time concentrating since the surgery and sitting for hours on end studying really wore me out the first 3 weeks.  If you can see your surgeon earlier to make it work for your schedule then do it!  Keep me posted and good luck

Hey Amanda,

I am also in school and had my surgery on June 24. I had talked to my surgeon and told him when I go back to school. He was completely accomodating! He was booking into the middle of july and squeezed me in because he know I was going back to school the end of August. It doesnt hurt to call and ask the surgeons office if they can get you in sooner. You should call frequently because there are always cencelations. Good luck and post if you need anything else!

I wouldn't worry about anybody there thinking you are rude, I think that everybody pretty much wants to have their surgery as soon as possible because you feel like you want to "start getting your life back" sooner then later. The whole waiting game makes everybody anxious, so they should definitely be used to it by now. You have a very good reason for wanting to have yours done sooner, so you have absolutely nothing to lose by at least asking. or even pestering ;) you know what they say, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease!"
