Diet before & after WLS
Ok...I KNOW I am going to get all this info soon. I am just getting anxious. So sue me...
I am having lap band surgery. How long are you on a restricted diet after the surgery? I have heard it's liquid for the first week and jello, mashed potatoes and the like for a few weeks after. Is that right? I was never really told anything about BEFORE. Is there a special diet BEFORE the surgery date? Im' not gonna lie...I am trying to plan a vacation and I dont want to be stuck the week before, drinking my meals.
Thanks!

Ah, well we have the same surgeon, so I can fill you in on what my pre-op diet experience was, unless he has since changed it.
Less than 10g fat, less than 30g carbs, and at least 70g protein a day for 2 weeks before surgery. You can eat food, but it's pretty boring because it's mostly just lean meat. I also drank protein shakes.
I don't think the post-op lap band diet is as restrictive as the RNY or DS diets. RNYers especially have to stick to a pretty strict diet plan afterwards and work their way up to solid food because their pouch can't tolerate heavier foods until it is fully healed, so I think lap-banders get to move a little more quickly through the liquid and mushy stages, but I can't be positive about that.
Once you get a date, you should get scheduled for a consult with the nutritionist and she'll give you guidelines on what to eat, what not to eat, and what supplements to take.
