New to 20s Board

Hi everyone,  My name is Nicole and I am 27 years old.  I live in Colorado and recently had the RNY Gastric Bypass surgery done (one month ago today, actually).  It was performed by Dr. Michael Snyder, who was very nice and considerate. I have a few questions, since I'm really new at this.. I posted a few questions on the main board, but haven't gotten any replies yet. 1.  Caffiene - Do you drink it in tea, coffee, or soda?  Yes or no.  I tried iced tea the other day and didn't realize that it would upset my pouch because of the caffiene, just wondering if that is perminate or temporary? 2.  Water - I try and try to drink just plain water and every time I do, it makes me sick, so I have been drinking decaf tea and light juice.  Does water make any one else sick, and did it go away? 3.  Cruise - I will be going on a cruise in the middle of October and I was wondering what I should expect as far as what I am allowed to eat/what I should eat.  I will be about 4 1/2 months out by then. Thanks everyone for listening to my ramblings, I look forward to meeting everyone and chatting with some other people my age that have gone through WLS.

hey nicole, im nickie.  I can't really answer all of your questions because I had lapband so our experiences are a little different.  But I'll try and give you some advice with caffiene you should ask your dr.  mine allows it but some dont.  when you say water makes you sick, is it like nauseaus, or just hurts your tummy? water really shouldn't make you sick, its the neutral thing that shouldn't bother us.  If you talk to your dr you might want to mention it. I haven't been on a cruise, but I went to London recently and I ate normally, but just keep in mind with cruises it 24hr eating so you need to make sure that you keep food issues under control, because its easy to be temped with all that yummy looking food.  Hope this helps., and welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board Nicole!!  One month already, isn't it awesome? Your Questions... these are just my answers, I would still consult my doctor. 1.  Caffiene - Do you drink it in tea, coffee, or soda?  Yes or no.   ** I drink it now, as I'm over two years out.  With being so :young: I would refrain from the caff for a while.  I didn't have any until I was six months out.  When I do have Caffeine, I make sure to increase my water intake as well.

2.  Water - I try and try to drink just plain water and every time I do, it makes me sick, so I have been drinking decaf tea and light juice.  Does water make any one else sick, and did it go away? ** Water was the hardest for me.  I didn't get sick, it just hurt my pouch.  I added things like crystal light to it and was able to drink it then.

3.  Cruise - I will be going on a cruise in the middle of October and I was wondering what I should expect as far as what I am allowed to eat/what I should eat.  I will be about 4 1/2 months out by then. ** Four and half months out, you should be able to find something to eat on the cruise.  This is definately a question for your nutritionist and surgeon :) Have fun on your cruise!!!  Where you goin? Again, welcome to the group... and is your puppy a pomeranian????? he he

Thanks for your answers!  My puppy is a Chow Chow.  He is a year now, but I just love that picture of him when he was a puppy, lol.  I will be going to Jamaca, Cozumel, and the Cayman Islands!  I can't wait, I am hoping I can lose some more weight before then.  I think it will be a blast.  I have my 6 week appointment in a few more weeks, so I will ask the nut about the cruise and water thing.  It just makes me feel nausous right after I take a sip... I don't actually throw up, but I feel like I could.  I normally love water (pre-op) anyway.

I was able to do straigh****er about three months out... just try the Crystal Light, its a huge difference.  Personally... I like the store brand additives better- no calories and less "Sweet". I should have guessed a Chow also!!!  I have a Black Pomeranian... adore her!  But we can't forget about the three barn dogs too... German Shepard Mix, Shar Pei/Pit Bull Cross, Austrailian Shepard/Queensland Heeler.

Welcome to our fun little group! Glad you found us... my two-cents: caffiene - I do it, I lost what I wanted to lose, and try to follow all the rules - but I'm no doctor, so I guess just do what ever your doc or nut. says... water - I had the same problem but not anymore, I think it got better around four months....I also did better with tea, crystal light, or even just adding lemon - going with room temperature rather then cold or hot was also easier... cruise - by then probably just about anything,  but i would bring some splenda with me and watch out for hidden sources of sugar so you don't waste a minute of fun in your cabin dumping!

Hi Nicole!  My name is Nicole as well; I am 25, and also live in Colorado .  I was thinking about Dr. Snyder for Lap Band and am going to attend one of his seminars later this month.  I am going to a different doctor now though, but still want to get as much info as I can before really jumping into the pool if you know what I mean.

I’m sorry though, I don't really have any answers to your questions since I am haven’t had surgery yet. I thought it was cool that you were a Nicole, close to my age, and lived in Colorado , so I wanted to say hi.  I also wanted to ask you a question, I don’t know why, but am thinking you could be someone that I already know.  I had a friend named Nicole, well actually she went by "Collie" and I lost touch with her over the last couple of years.  You can go to my profile and check out my pictures, to see if you by chance know me.  That would be extra weird if you did, but also cool.  If not, sorry to be a pain in the butt!
Well, good luck with your WLS.  I know you are going to do great and lose a lot by the time the cruise comes.

Talk to you later! Nicole

HI Nicole!  Cool, I love Dr.Snyder.  He is very nice and has time to answer all of the questions your may have about surgery, plus he is great post-op.  I have seen some posts on here that people that try to contact their surgeon after surgery and either don't get responses, or the surgeons get upset with them for contacting them!  Yikes!  I was a self-pay patient because my insurance didn't cover the surgery, so I would be PI$$ED if I paid that much money to have this procedure done and my doc didn't want to talk to me anymore!!! Anyway, I went to your profile and you looked a little familar, but the only other Nicole I knew went to Broomfield Heights Middle School and BHS.  Did you go to those schools?  That would be so wierd if we went to elementary school together, lol!! Good luck with going to the seminar, I hope you get all the info you need.  I'm not that far *out* but if you have any questions about being about 5 weeks post op, I would be happy to answer them. Talk to you later!

Hello Nicole! No, I went to schools closer to the Denver Metro area.  You look sorta familiar too, but who knows!?  It's always good to find others that are similar in age and going through the same things.  I haven't found a lot of people on here that are my age AND live in Colorado .  So I thought it was cool that I found you! Yeah, I am most likely going to go to another doctor for the lap band surgery itself, but I also know that all the people that have had surgery meet up once a month to touch base and so forth.  I would most likely attend one of Dr. Snyder's support groups since they meet more often and you can never get too much support   I will still be going to his seminar though, because he is such a great guy and I want to hear all the statistics and so forth on what will happen if I don't do SOMETHING for long-term. So how was it after your surgery?  I know we are having different surgeries and all, but we have the same general goals in mind. Well, I guess I will talk to you later!
