questions
Hello. I have a few questions to ask those of you who have had WLS. I am leaning more towards the VSG, so I will be on light duty when I go back to work for probably about 4-5 weeks. I am only 22 so I know it will be pretty easy to lose the weight I need to. I am wondering how quick I can start exercising(treadmill, stationery bike, etc.) Also, when you do start exercising and losing the weight, is it pretty easy to tone the skin back to normal elasticity? What kinds of foods do you all eat now? As far as the protein intake, do you prefer the protein bullets or shakes, or something else? I will appreciate the answers I will get back. Thanks!
I think going back to work depends on what type of job you have. I'm a teacher and my classroom is on the 2nd floor and no elevator, so I had to climb stairs and stand for long periods...so I went back 10 days after surgery officially. I did go back at 5 days after for a day, but it wore me out completely...so I took the next few days off.
Food is different based on doctor's requirements, but I was on liquids for 2 days, then pureeds for a week, then soft foods( deli meats, etc****il day 21 after surgery and back to regular foods as tolerated after that. I definitely liked fruity protein drinks than shakes, but I rarely have them anymore as I'm getting my protein from food sources now, which I think is a good thing.
My doctor promoted walking as much as possible after surgery. I would say if you are doing walking, you can start as soon as you want, but my doctor wanted me to wait to do and weight lifting until a month out. Everything else was open as long as I felt up to it. My skin is alright, but being overweight my entire life, I know it's not going to go back to the way it's supposed to be.
Hope that helps!
