Hey everyone!  I am new to the website and I just stumbled on to the "surgery in your 20s" forum. *phew* What a relief it is, to have people I can talk to and relate to.   I was approved for lap band, on Monday. Woo Hoo! I have a strange question. I noticed one member wished she had kept up with her weight loss, with photos and measurements.  I was wondering if it was strange of me to want to do a "documentary" of sorts?  I was going to video tape this whole process (for what purpose, I don't know). My friend thinks I am nuts. What do you think? Good luck to everyone! Lindsay

Your not nuts! I thought about the same thing. Since both of my paents are also having it done (mom already did) I thought that would be cool to tape everything we go through as a family... BUT I just dont have the time really. I have a toddler and its just a little to hard. But I say GO FOR IT! I think it would be cool to look back a few years from now and have that all on video. Way cool!

I think it's a great idea! I was glued to youtube watching WLS pre-op and post-op videos of people. I can't even begin to tell you how helpful it was for me prior to surgery.

I also think its a great idea because it re-enforces your desire to be successful.  If you do a documentary it usually says that you want to meet goals from start to finish and have some evidence of getting there.  Although I'm not doing a blog or documentary of sort.  I elected to do the pre-op photos, and then new pics every month post-op... I also take my measurements one to twice a week and weigh myself daily (although that can be disadvantagious to some people). Just the other day I took my front and side view 3 month post-op pics.  I pulled them up photoshop with my pre-op, 1 month and 2 month and put them side by side.  It's amazing what you see... because often we don't realize the major changes our bodies go through as time goes on and looking in the mirror or see an occasion pants or shirt size go down.  The proof is in the pics and the measurements (38 inches loss in 3 months for me).

I think doing a documentary of sorts is a GREAT idea.  You're not nuts at all!  I wish I'd done more of that sort of thing.  I am almost 4 years out now and it's a shame to look back and say that I shyed away from the camera a bit too much as I was dropping my weight and I wish I had more "progress" pics and "before" pics to look back on now.  Hindsight is 20/20, I guess.  I think you should go for it though!  Good luck to you on your lapband!  Congrats on getting approved!

totally document!!!!  it will be especially helpful when your weight loss slows down or when you'll hit the dreaded but inevitable plateaus.  nothing like a mental boost when the scale isn't moving to look back and see that you've lost 47" or 53 lbs or 8 pants sizes.  good luck and congrats on your approval!!

Congrats on getting approved!!  I don't think that is weird at all!  I have kept up on a blog with pictures and measurements and lots of information (not all necessarily WLS related)  At the end (whenever I decide that is) I have decided to use this software I found and put all of the posts in a book, so I can keep it. The documentary thing is an awesome idea.  I don't have the time, but if I did I would have loved to do that!!

I never thought about YouTube.  I was talking to my boyfriend and he thought that YouTube would be a great way to help others "relate" to what I am going through.  (that is, if they haven't already found this awesome site!) thanks everyone!
