WLS turned me into a SLOB!

I was just eating lunch and realized something. Ever since having surgery, I seem to always find myself eating food with my hands. I was watching some show on DiscoverY Health last night about experimenting with putting humans on an ape diet and I think that when I eat I must look like one of those apes picking up morsels of food with their fingers. I'm not even talking about foods that are traditionally eaten with your hands or fingers. Most of those foods I don't ever eat anymore anyway because they're not WLS freindly (bread, sandwhices, fried finger foods, etc)...I'm talking more like deli meats that i roll up with stuff in the middle like string cheese, edamame, roasted peppers, artichokes. But really anything, as long as it isn't too saucy or hot, I now prefer to eat with my fingers... I have a feeling I'm probably alone on this and it isn't WLS related, but I figured this would be a good place to find out if "IS IT JUST ME, OR AM I WIERD????"

I am the complete opposite.  I cut almost everything up and eat it with a fork or spoon.  It helps me take smaller bites, slows me down and allows me to construct "perfect bites".  Example: last night I had a chicken fajita which could probably have been eaten with my fingers if I tossed everything in to a tortilla and wrapped it up, but no.  For every bite on my fork I had balance of a piece of chicken, pepper, onion, cheese, tortilla, lettuce, and tomato.  I figure I only get so many bites so I have to make them count.  Maybe it is me who is weird......

Fajitas is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. It is something that should be eaten in a tortilla but since I usually skip on the tortilla I would just grab a piece of onion, piece of pepper, piece of meat and kind of line them up parralell since I cut them all to about the same size before I cook them, then I would maybe eat it all like a celery stick and maybe dip it in sour cream, some tims there will be chopped lettuce included too. So next time you see me, you will know why my hand smells like liquid smoke and cumin and garlic.

I am doing the same thing!!! My kids I have in class asked me yesterday...why don't you just make a sandwich...I was eating deli meat with my fingers rolled up.  But I do the same thing!  So no worries!

My go-to meal: One string cheese pulled apart into roughly as many pieces as i have meat, then I pile the meat on top (about 3 ounces usually) and then microwave it for thirty seconds so the meat gets kind of hot and the cheese just gets soft. Then I eat one piece of meat with one or two strings of cheese, and if I'm in the mood for something extra either texture wise, fiber-wiser, or taste-wise I include other things. lately it has been edamame.....I eat these roll-ups with my fingers and dip them in whatever I'm in the mood for, usually creamy honey-mustard or barbecue sauce.

I do that with pepperoni and provalone cheese.  I get the sandwich size sliced pepperoni from the deli, put a slice of provalone cheese between two slices of the pepperoni and stick it in the oven until the pepperoni gets crispy and the cheese melty...then I cut it up and eat it with a fork.

I cut that up too.  I have always been a knife and fork person.  Back before my surgery I ate chili cheese dogs (my drug of choice) out of white styrafoam containers with a blue plastic knife and fork, and with a brown paper napkin folded in my lap - very classy.

I'm like Amy too... before I'd eat lots of things with my hands... but post-op I noticed that when I ate certain foods with my hands, I'd take too big of bites and then not chew it well enough and it gets stuck.  So, when I started to cut up almost everything... I had fewer trips to go ... now a sandwich, i don't cut up.  but like a chicken finger, i'll cut it up
